Update 05/15/2013: “As Mr. Covey’s penchant for mouthing emerged, it was decided that he should move to a nearby foster home that didn’t include little people.”
As Mr. Covey’s penchant for mouthing emerged, it was decided that he should move to a nearby foster home that didn’t include little people. His mouthing at times can seem more like nibbling, especially to children, and is a behavior his new foster family is working to correct.
On all other fronts, Covey remains the same happy boy he was with his first foster family. What a LOVE BUG he is! He loves to snuggle and give kisses. He does great at bath time and always has post-bath time zoomies! He loves to chase a ball and will do so for as long as your arm does not get tired. He loves other dogs too.
A favorite funny thing with Covey is that he likes to lay like a frog………with his back legs splayed out. No arthritis there! He doesn’t bark a lot either, unless provoked by his foster sister!
Covey is just a fantastic dog. He will do great in an experienced springer household, one that will continue to encourage more mannerly nuzzling with that muzzle and keep the balls flyin’!
Original: “Curious Covey the Springer Boy also is very nosey. If given the opportunity, he will even stick his head in the fridge to see what’s for dinner!”
Covey came to MAESSR via Tennessee after his owner there passed away. Their bond must have been very strong since Covey seems to be very attentive to men in general. This is not to say he is not a Velcro dog to his foster mom! Covey follows her everywhere from room to room; he just loves to be where she is! He is more than happy to cuddle and give kisses, too. Curious Covey the Springer Boy also is very nosey. If given the opportunity, he will even stick his head in the fridge to see what’s for dinner!
Housetrained and reliable, Covey uses the doggie door when he needs to go out. He loves to jump up on the bed, but does not mind sleeping on a dog bed on the floor either. He will try to get in your spot on the bed before you do, so you have to be quick! Although he is a counter-surfer, Covey removes his paws when corrected. Even though he is nine years old, he is very energetic and seems easy to train. Covey does not chew inappropriately, but if stuffed animals are not provided for him, he will go in search of something soft and cushy to play with.
Covey knows “sit,” “come,” “stay” (when he wants to), and “drop it” (for the most part). He loves to go on walks and although he is a strong boy, he does not pull too much. A social boy, he is fine meeting other people and dogs on his walks and other adventures. When he first came into MAESSR’s care, he and his foster mom stopped at a vegetable market where he lay down and let everyone walk around him! He was the hit of the market! In the car, he is a great rider, but his only issue is trying to sit in the driver’s lap! Otherwise, he lies down and sleeps.
An active Springer, Covey likes to roughhouse with the resident one year old Brittany. He’s delighted to fetch his tennis ball when his foster mom throws it for him. He will return to you, but needs a little help once in a while with returning the ball to you! His foster mom is working on that with Covey! He shows no guarding of his food or toys. Covey is fine with the resident cats, but his foster mom still keeps an eye on him when they are lying down next to him.
Covey was very good at the vet where he handled all of the probing and prodding very well. Good boy, Covey!
Soon, Covey will be ready for his forever family. He hopes they are ready for long walks and lots of play time and loving! He could have a dog buddy in his new home or he could be happy as a solo dog. Covey most of all wants to be loved!
