Original: “Cooper interacts with visitors to the house with enthusiasm. He is sure everyone is there to see him!”
Cooper came to MAESSR when his Virginia owner was unable to deal with his Velcro-ness. Cooper was very attached to his owner and, at the current stage in her life, she was unable to deal with his need to be with her always. Cooper also had a few spats with the resident dogs over attention from his owner.
This handsome boy is housetrained and lets you know he wants to go out by standing near the back door. Cooper has had a few incidents since being in his foster home. This appears to be an anxiety situation since he only does this when he is left alone in the house, whether it is for 10 minutes or 4 hours. Cooper is somewhat crate trained but is not a fan of it. He can howl or excessively lick his paws when left in the crate. If it wasn’t for the soiling issue, Cooper would be fine with having full access to the house when his foster parents are gone as he does not mess with others’ personal items. His family is sure that as Cooper becomes more comfortable with his surroundings and is confident that his foster parents will return home, the problem will stop. Cooper sleeps on the bed at night.
Cooper’s house manners are good. He does not trash dive, counter-surf or beg for food. He is partial to lounging on the couch during the day. He does not chew inappropriately and plays with toys only occasionally. When prompted, Cooper will engage in a game of chasing and wrestling the other foster dog at his home.
Although he sometimes pulls while walking on a regular leash, Cooper is a perfect gentleman when he wears his Gentle Leader. He knows the commands “sit,” “lay down,” “come,” and “down” well. He hasn’t gotten the grasp of “paw” yet. Cooper rides in the car like a champ. He lies down in the back right away and does not need to be crated or harnessed. Good boy, Cooper!
Cooper interacts with visitors to the house with enthusiasm. He is sure everyone is there to see him! He greets everyone with a wagging tail and waits patiently for a head scratch. Generally, Cooper does not jump on others. When he does, a firm “down” command has him planting his feet on the floor right away.
Cooper was groomed before he entered his foster home but, based upon his general demeanor, it is likely that is was not a problem. He handles baths with little resistance and allows his paws to be touched and ears cleaned without issue. He also enjoys being brushed.
Overall, Cooper has a medium energy level. He enjoys walks and will play with toys on occasion. He is more than content to just hang on the couch with his peeps. Wouldn’t you like to hang out with Cooper?
