Original: Named by a shelter staff for her passion for cookies, Cookie was removed from her original home as the result of a cruelty case. She and two of her puppies came to the central Pennsylvania shelter in good health and bad need of loving families who would care for them properly. The puppies were adopted locally but, like many older dogs, Cookie was offered to breed rescue. She weighs 42 pounds, is long legged and has very pretty markings.
Cookie had been living on a chain outdoors but, despite this background, is doing her best to adapt quickly to indoor life. She has house trained quickly and not had any accidents and this, with free roam of the house for up to seven hours! She has not chewed anything inappropriate in her foster home. Cookie will go into a crate when asked but because she has proven herself so trustworthy, she no longer uses one. She’s sleeping bedside at night but would really like to sleep in the bed if she could. She counter surfs and begs for food but will cease this mischief when corrected. She knows basic commands and, when allowed off leash, has listened to her foster mom attentively. She’s very cool about riding along to the grocery store and settles right down.
Cookie responds well when meeting women and children but has shown hesitation with some men. When given time and encouragement she has warmed up to them, but right now, she seems to forget meeting them by the next day. Perhaps a less than perfect encounter in her past is shadowing her trust, perhaps she has just not been around men much in her life. Hopefully with increasing opportunities to meet dog loving gentlemen, she will realize that they can lavish dogs with as much love as the women and children she trusts. Until that trust comes, Cookie will probably do best among older children who understand dogs who might be fearful of new people.
When it comes to other dogs, Cookie loves playing with all of them and puts her whole heart into whatever the game is. She has no fear of her foster sisters and brother, nor does she respect their space. She is a confident gal and will walk right over them or flop her body down on top of them. Since the resident dogs are all quite good sports, Cookie’s dominant behavior has not caused discontent. However, if she is placed in a forever home with another dog, it should be a laid back dog who will share its space easily with her.
Cookie is a master wiggle butt. She never stops lobbying for hands-on attention and wants to be draped across a lap at all times. She would delight in having her own special person to love and cuddle with. Recovery from her spaying will be complete soon and is the only thing between her and the dream of a deserving person to share her love with. Do you have room in your heart for this sweet girl?
