Updated 1/23/06: Cookie is thriving in her foster home. She just LOVES the fenced in yard. Sometimes when she is outside with her foster family, she will play fetch. And at other times, she will just run laps around the yard!
It was reported by her original owners that Cookie would claim the toddlers’ toys as her own and chew on them. In her foster home there are only adults, so this has not been an issue. Cookie does adore her dog toys and almost always has one in her mouth. She has finished off a stuffed squeaky ducky, another soft dog toy, and she skinned a couple tennis balls. Much to her credit, though, she has not touched fuzzy slippers, shoes, or any furniture!
This little gem of a girl needs to be around people. Cookie will follow her foster mom around the house from room to room. She is doing well with the resident Springers, but still can’t figure out how to play with them. There are play bows from Cookie and the resident 3-year-old, but that is as far as it goes. Cookie may just be having sooo much fun with her toys and people that she doesn’t need dogs in her life right now!
Cookie has been a wonderful house guest and is a great dog. She has almost finished her medication for the urinary tract infection and is able to sleep 8-9 hours at night now. She’s ready to snuggle with a forever family who will enjoy showering her with toys as much as she will enjoy playing with them, the people and the toys, that is!!! So, got toys???
Original: Cookie came into MAESSR’s care as the result of a relinquishment. Her home was a busy one with five children. The owners felt they did not have enough time to give her the attention she deserves. She’s in very good health with just one short term issue. After an unexpected accident, she was diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and given antibiotics. Since starting the meds, she has not had any further problems. She’s had her first professional grooming, received an A+ from the groomer, and looks so very pretty.
Cookie is a sweet Springer, very willing to cuddle, love, and be loved. She has very delicate features. She will softly jump up on people to be sure they notice her but has not shown any signs of aggression in her new surroundings. She will allow her food dish to be taken away while she is eating without protest. It doesn’t bother her at all if you pet her during her mealtime. She takes treats nicely. Cookie bypasses furniture and the trash can but will counter surf, if only to check out what’s there. She has never taken anything and will respond quickly when told firmly “off”.
While in her foster home, Cookie has been a polite house guest. She’s mostly quiet, but she will join in when the resident Springer ladies are barking. She has been a little shy with the three of them and respectful. It seems as if she wants to play but just can’t figure out how to get started. This will come with just a few more days of getting acquainted!
Her previous owners shared that Cookie would chew on the children’s toys at times, but she has only chosen dog toys in her foster home. She knows “sit” and will “come” when called. Daily walks have become part of her new routine. She pulls some on her leash but is already getting better with walking skills. She is crate trained and never fusses about going in. At night, she sleeps bedside on a dog bed, but her foster parents know she would love to sleep on their bed if given the chance.
Cookie LOVES a fenced in yard and would play ball outside for hours if she had that chance. She has gotten along with everybody that she has met at her foster home, including children. Her behavior with the 9-year-old neighbor has been beautiful. This fits with her behavior in her original home where she was trustworthy with the youngest of the children, age 3, with normal supervision. Cookie needs a home with people who will be able to play with her, walk with her, but most of all, people who will give her the love and attention that makes her shine!
