Update 12/11/09: Just a few days ago, this was the news for Cody. There are times when one really does hope that their dog’s health problem is an infection, a simple infection that will respond to a round of antibiotics and be history in 10-14 days. Unfortunately, that possibility has not come to pass for Cody. With further vetting, it has been determined that he did not have a liver infection as initially suspected. He is now scheduled for an ultrasound to check a suspicious mass that was seen on his liver when x-rays were done. Please keep Cody in your thoughts.
Yesterday results of further testing confirmed that Cody had liver cancer. This was causing him to not feel well and was incurable. The kindest thing to do for him was to gently send him to the Bridge. Godspeed Cody.
Original: After his wife died, Cody’s owner did not have the time to spend with his Springers, often leaving 11-year-old Cody and 8-year-old Max in the yard confined by an invisible fence for up to 15 hours a day. Knowing that this was not a satisfactory arrangement, he turned to MAESSR for help finding new homes where his boys could once again get the attention they needed.
Cody is a sweet boy that enjoys playing with the other dogs in his foster home and napping on the sofa. He has great house manners and would not dream of counter surfing. He loves to follow his foster mom around just so he can be sure that he is not missing anything. When it is time to go for a ride in the car, Cody is set to go, and he is a well-behaved passenger. He loves going for walks, too.
When Cody went to the vet to be checked out, it was noted that one of his liver values was a bit high. He was tested for Cushings and it came back negative. The vet now has him on some medications to see if his liver is infected. He goes back for another checkup soon. More information will be posted once the latest test results are available. Also, Cody has some arthritis in his hips and is being given a glucosamine supplement and fish oil capsules to help him feel better.
