Original: Cody was born in a puppy mill in Pennsylvania and was shipped to a pet shop in Maryland where he was purchased by a young man who had not gotten approval from his parents. Then, Cody was given to the grandparents of a friend. Although this couple liked Cody, their two older, smaller dogs didn’t, so MAESSR was contacted to find him a loving, permanent home.
Crate trained and completely housebroken; Cody loosely knows a few commands. Being so young, he needs constant tending when out of the crate as he likes to counter surf anything and everything for tasty morsels. Obedience training will help this young boy to be a welcome member of his new household.
The resident dog quickly taught Cody how to go up and down the stairs and Cody is more than willing to learn from him as he follows him around like, well, a puppy! When the dogs are walked together, Cody pulls on the leash, probably because in his adult life he intends to be a leader! When walked alone, he does much better. Cody loves his walks, although he is still getting used to all the loud noises around him. He definitely likes the other dogs and people he meets. Cody also rides beautifully in the car. Cody and the resident dog get to ride along with his foster dad when they pick up mom from work! Cody likes to see what is going on in the world and be right there with the rest of the family as they pick her up daily.
Like all Springer puppies, Cody has a lot of energy and loves to play fetch being one of his favorite games. This boy has a very sweet disposition, and he is not food or toy possessive. As well as getting along well with the resident dog, Cody gets along great with the cats in his foster family. He also loves the grandchildren who come visiting, the youngest of whom is two. When he saw the two-year-old for the first time, Cody’s unbridled enthusiasm, combined with his 30 pounds was enough to knock her over. No harm was done and both Cody and the little ones enjoyed playing together.
When his foster parents get home from work and turn the front door key, Cody is a wee bit mouthy in his joy at seeing them again. Also, when her hears noises in the night, and is frightened or unsure, he gets some comfort nibbling on hands. Something that can be overcome with training. This beautiful, affectionate, lively little guy with soulful eyes loves to be loved on and is quick to turn over for a belly rub. He even loves the attention lavished on him while he is being combed. Although his papers say his is Black/White, he is really a very dark liver.
Cody will be a wonderful addition to a family who likes to play, go for walks, lavish love on their pet, and patiently accompany him from puppyhood to adulthood.
