Original: “Cody is a handsome dog with a gorgeous personality who will give his new family plenty of puppy love!”
Cody is an adorable dog. He was clearly a much-loved and well-cared for companion who found himself in the shelter after his New Jersey owner died.
Cody is nearly 2 years old and will be the perfect pet for anyone who wants to have the exuberance and playfulness of a puppy, without having to potty train or deal with chewed socks! Cody loves to play and needs a family who will indulge him with squeaky toys and tummy rubs. He is still in the “mouthy puppy phase” and will need some time to grow out of this. He is very bouncy and can jump quite high when he is excited. For this reason, he would play best with children who are school age. Cody has shown no signs of aggression to anything, not even the mailman.
He is absolutely content for the resident male to be the dominant dog in the household. Cody doesn’t care about his social status. He just wants his foster brother to play with him. He is also very good with other dogs he meets and he likes to chase squirrels and flies! Think now of the classic image of a puppy snapping away at thin air trying to catch a fly! Once play is over, Cody settles down easily. He loves to be close to his people and will lie or sit, preferably leaning right in at your feet. If allowed, he would happily join you in the shower! At night he sleeps quietly on the floor next to the bed.
Cody has had a few accidents in his foster home, but he seems to be housetrained, so this is likely due to the new routine and environment. Cody is very inquisitive and will jump up on the counter just to see what is there, but he will get down on command. He rides well in the car, does not get in the trash, and knows “sit.” His foster parents are working on “stay” and “come.” He does not pull on a leash and, because he likes to be with his people, he will likely be fine off leash. An obedience class will make Cody and even more sociable family pet.
He does not appear to be crate trained yet, but when left alone, he has been given the run of the house for short periods of time with no problems.
