Update 02/07/11:
Master Cody has moved on to his new foster family who is finding him to be a wonderful young dog. Despite being a little under 2 years old, he’s fully housebroken, doesn’t mark and his foster mom hasn’t heard him bark yet. He’ll mimic the resident spaniel and talk to you in the morning while he’s waiting to go out to do his business. He crates quietly all night long, though he probably doesn’t need to be crated at all.
Since Cody didn’t have much outside activity while in his surrendering home, his leash manners are just getting started. He loves to go with you though, so being underfoot on leash is more of a problem than pulling. He’s shy about leaving the property without another dog along at night but prances around in a 15 foot radius otherwise, within his known new home boundaries. Cody loves the recent snow too.
He is just learning about countersurfing and though not bad about it, he will raise up on his hind legs to look for opportunities. He doesn’t chew inappropriate items, or even toys, though he will carry around his foster mom’s house shoe if she goes outside without him.
Due to recent neutering, Cody’s just now getting to play with the resident Springer. He’s great with other dogs, playing not so much a submissive role as a clown, grinning and backing off when he’s upset anyone, which is usually the resident terrier. Cody has little awareness of personal space, so stand-offish dogs might be offended. He eats near the resident dogs with no aggression, though again his personal space non-awareness means that he’ll sidle over and try someone else’s bowl if he finishes first – what a snipe!
Cody knows come and out; he’ll wiggle around instead of sitting. He loves to be in the same room as his folks but doesn’t press for attention unless invited. He’s shown no separation anxiety; he just hits a bed near the door when his foster folks go out. He likes being groomed and flops in a pile with the resident Springer for tummy brushing.
All in all, Cody is a wonderful young guy, not small actually at about 52 pounds and thin at that. He’s been his foster dad’s favorite dog in quite some time and he’d get to stay except for the family’s 2 dog limit. Cody is easy to have around, always has a great attitude and is just waiting for someone to show him how to shine. Could be your Valentine!!

Cody came to MAESSR when his North Carolina family had some unexpected, major health issues. They relinquished five springers to MAESSR – Cody 10, Panzee, Bambi, Freckles 14, and Pluto – because they knew we would make sure they had loving forever homes.
A dedicated MAESSR volunteer couple handled the long transport for these beauties bringing them to a temporary foster home in Virginia where they enjoyed MAESSR hospitality for a week before starting on another transport north to their foster homes.
Watch for more on Cody as he settles into life in his foster home in Pennsylvania.
