Original: “When given half a chance, he will find a way out of the pen and come searching for the people in the house for a snuggle and some play.”
Coco-Nut was part of a litter of eight that game into MAESSR’s care at 9 weeks when their Maryland owner became ill and could not care for them. He has since been fostered with two of his sisters and a brother.
Coco is the big, handsome boy of the litter. When given half a chance, he will find a way out of the pen and come searching for the people in the house for a snuggle and some play.
Coco is great with kids and has been toddler-tested with children as young as three. He loves someone to play with—kids and/or dogs. Happily, he lets the foster kids carry him around and if the play goes outdoors, he loves a game of chase around the back yard. Coco is great with other dogs. He has been fostered with his two sisters and brother as well as a six year old female Springer and a ten year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and has done well with all. There are no cats in his foster home.
At 16 weeks, Coco is still learning commands but knows “sit” and “come.” He responds to his name and is learning to walk on a leash. He is a super quick learner and is usually the first of his siblings to learn a new skill. The treats may have something to do with that. Potential adopters should note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and under to enroll their puppy in a series of obedience classes within 60 days of adoption. Coco is a very smart little pup and will be a star pupil.
Coco is working on housetraining but has work yet to do. He is crate trained and sleeps in the crate overnight with one of his siblings. He does not have accidents overnight in the crate. Good boy! Coco is quiet at night but hates to be in the crate during the day if there are people in the room and he might miss something.
Coco has been calm in the car during trips to the vet. He was always crated during these times. Coco is fed inside his crate to ensure he doesn’t gobble his food along with that of all of his siblings! He is super food motivated but has demonstrated no resource guarding. Coco is more curious than scared in the bath and will let his foster mom clip his nails in between puppy kisses.
Make this sweetheart part of your family!
