Original: Clyde came into MAESSR’s care after being found as a stray and taken to a Pennsylvania shelter along with a female Springer traveling companion. Since there was no history or identification on either dog and both apparently had been partners in crime with matted, muddy coats, the shelter dubbed them Bonnie and Clyde.
An active and very happy-go-lucky young Springer, Clyde has settled into his foster home very nicely. He loves people of all ages, other dogs and even cats! He has no issue with sharing his bed with the resident cat and does so quite often.
Since Clyde is very full of energy, he will require a fair amount of training to get to a manageable state. This boy needs to run and loves to do so. When he has caught the scent of a few of the local pheasants, Clyde practically turned himself inside out trying to follow their scent. We have a hunter here! On a leash, Clyde is a handful, but a new training harness seems to be helping with this. His training in foster care will continue for some time to come.
Completely housebroken, Clyde clearly lets his foster family know when he needs to go out. Once outside, he is quick to return to the door when finished with his needs. He does well in a crate but has not had to spend much time there. He has been given free run of the house alone for several hours with no problems. Clyde does like to nap on the furniture, and this will take some patience to correct. He has no issues with counter surfing, but his foster family has not given him an opportunity to get into trouble since nothing tempting is kept on the counter and trash is in a pet-proof container. During people mealtime, Clyde will normally find a place to lie down.
Clyde would be a great match for an active family who likes to hike and get outside to exercise. Kids, dogs, and cats would be welcome companions too.
