Original:
When her Virginia owners did not have adequate time to care for Clara, she was relinquished to MAESSR to begin a new life. Despite reports that she was a high-energy dog, her foster parents have not seen this behavior in the time she has spent with them. Actually, she seems really low energy in the house. Although she is always ready for a walk or an occasional play session with the resident Springer, Clara is not at all overly energetic.
Clara had two lick granulomas on her paws when she arrived, but she is not doing any licking now since there is plenty of activity in her foster home. Another trip to the vet is pending. When she is spayed, she will probably have a small, pea-sized growth near one of her left mammary glands removed. She’s lost a couple of pounds since coming into foster and could probably stand to drop another five pounds to be at a healthier weight. With increased activity, this should not be hard to accomplish.
A good girl who is completely housebroken, Clara stands by the door if she needs to go out. She goes into an open crate to sleep but is given full roam of several rooms while her foster folks are away. No counter-surfing or trash diving for this practical girl! Clara keeps four feet on the ground in the kitchen. Good girl! She knows the commands “sit,” “stay,” and “give paw,” and would probably be trustworthy off leash with her humans nearby. She enjoys car rides, swimming, and trotting alone or in tandem with the other foster dogs.
Clara has been really compatible with her foster Springer sister, hanging out, playing, going for walks, so she might prefer to have a doggie sibling of a similar size in her forever home. Clara has her own voice within the pack. When pestered by a male foster terrier, she pinned him but didn’t hurt him. Then, she went to her crate when spoken sternly to by her foster mom. At mealtime, Clara is fed separately from the resident Springer so that she can eat without food theft by her Springer housemate. She sits quietly in the company of the two resident dogs and two other foster dogs to take treats without any aggression, and hasn’t displayed any resource guarding at all either with toys or the humans. In general, she’s just a very easy-going dog.
Although her prior owner used a gentle leader when walking Clara, her leash manners with a regular collar and leash are pretty good, so that’s used currently. A social girl, she wags her tail at other dogs and people she meets on walks. Clara also loves being groomed and doesn’t seem to have any issues with having her feet or ears handled.
Clara loves her humans without being clingy or protective, but she also seems to enjoy doggie company. Ideally, Clara would probably do best with a similar sized doggie companion in her forever home. This smiling Springer has no human aggression at all, and would probably take being hugged and played with by kids, or make a calm indoor companion with the energy to run outside or play fetch and swim.
How about welcoming this wonderful, loving girl into your family?
