Update 4/19/13: “She was the social butterfly in her foster home and welcomed everyone who came in the door.”
It’s sad to share that Cindy will not be porch sitting this summer. She was doing so well in foster care while patiently awaiting a family of her own. She was the social butterfly in her foster home and welcomed everyone who came in the door. Unfortunately, a new health problem emerged for her that was not fixable. In the arms of volunteers who had loved her as their own, Cindy passed to the Bridge. Here’s betting this sweetheart is already welcoming newcomers there…………J).
Update 04/03/2013: “With the nice weather returning, Cindy loves to just sit on the porch at times, soaking up the sunshine and watching the birds return.”
Miss Cindy is doing great these days and has even lost a few more pounds. She looks forward to her walks in the pastures with her foster brother and has now taken on the job of letting her foster mom know when company arrives. Everyone who meets her just falls in love and Cindy makes sure everyone feels welcome, including the little children.
With the arrival of two springer visitors during Easter week, Cindy took on the duty of making them feel right at home too. She even happily shared her bed with the older springer girl.
With the nice weather returning, Cindy loves to just sit on the porch at times, soaking up the sunshine and watching the birds return.
Miss Cindy would love nothing better than to share her love and companionship with you. She’s a genuinely gentle soul, kind and accepting of all around her. Any one with a dog-loving heart would enjoy porch time with her this summer and strolls around the neighborhood on mild evenings. With overall good health and no extraordinary requirements, Cindy is easy to live with and easy to love. Ask about meeting this special senior today!
Update 02/28/2013: “Regular mealtimes, healthy snacks, an assist at the door when nature calls, being included in a little pleasant conversation…….what simple needs Cindy has.”
Miss Cindy has lost a few more pounds, resulting in good things for her. There’s no more trouble with navigating the stairs and her little springer dance has a lot more bounce.
Settled into the household routine, Cindy will now come to her foster mom and do her little dance when meal time approaches. She will also let her foster mom know when snack time has arrived… :)). Although she uses the doggie door when she wants to, a couple of times a day Cindy requires her mom to get “UP” and let her out. Her foster mom thinks maybe Cindy just wants to remind her who is in control here!
Cindy continues to be a low maintenance girl. Her need for attention has not changed…….a few pats a couple of times a day and she is a happy girl. Of course, she loves it when her foster mom just talks to her, as she loves to stay informed about what is happening. At day’s end, Cindy sleeps in the bedroom on a dog bed and after the “last call for potty outing” will retire on her own, sleeping through the night.
Continuing to be the perfect companion in every way, Cindy is ready for a loving home of her own. She appreciates a quieter lifestyle but definitely enjoys having people around her who understand a senior gal’s priorities. Regular mealtimes, healthy snacks, an assist at the door when nature calls, being included in a little pleasant conversation…….what simple needs Cindy has. Say “welcome” to Cindy and she’ll dance her way right into your heart!!
Update 01/15/2013: “Her morning greeting includes her little happy springer dance.”
Cindy moved to a quieter foster home last month and is thriving in her new environment. The thyroid meds are working great for this sweet girl and her coat is beginning to turn to silk. An additional benefit is some weight loss, which has done wonders for Cindy’s activity level. She now handles the steps to the yard without difficulty, although she takes them slowly as a senior girl should.
This gal loves her yard and will spend a lot of time wandering, just smelling the roses so to speak. In the morning she will bark to go outside if everyone is still snoozing when she thinks they should be ready for the new day. Her morning greeting includes her little happy springer dance. Yes, she now does the dance when she is happy or food is on the way!
Cindy gets along with the few dogs in her foster home, but she does bark at the kitties when she sees them outdoors. Cindy loves making new friends, and visitors are greeted by Cindy with her wagging tail and big springer kisses. She’s happy just to be around her people but is not one to demand a lot of attention. Of course, she’s always willing to accept any that comes her way with joy!
This sweet girl continues to have perfect house manners and, with her improved health, is now taking walks in the fields with the other fosters dogs. She stays near her foster mom and will come when called although, if she has found something interesting, she might need to be called more than once.
Cindy is a fine example of why senior dogs make such special pets. This loving girl would make a great companion for someone with a really quiet life style, as she is content to just lie around when things are quiet. She’s equally happy to get up and go when her people are on the move. Most of all, Cindy would love to come to your home and give you her springer kisses in exchange for a warm bed!
Original: “Since she enjoys spending time outdoors, sniffing the scents, Cindy needs a safe yard to explore.”
When Cindy’s owner of ten years needed to move into an assisted living facility, this Jersey Girl could not go with her, so MAESSR was contacted to find Cindy a wonderful new home to spend her golden years.
After her vet visit, a number of things were done to improve Cindy’s quality of life. Because of her previous owner’s physical and economic limitations, Cindy had not been on any meds for a year. Since she is a bit overweight, Cindy had some difficulty getting up and down due to arthritis. So, she is now receiving supplements to improve her mobility. The vet also prescribed an inexpensive medication for her low thyroid level, something frequently seen in overweight seniors. Now, she is moving around much better! Although Cindy has some visual impairment due to cataracts and has some hearing loss, these conditions have not slowed her down any. The vet also reassured her foster mom that the fatty tumor on Cindy’s chest is not malignant. Good news!
This good girl seems to have no bad habits. Well housetrained, Cindy has full run of the house when her foster parents are out and even though she has been exposed to a crate, she does not need one. Cindy keeps all four on the floor when meeting new people and counter-surfing is not an option for her physically. She does not chew inappropriately on anything, nor does she bark excessively. When her people are eating, she will watch but does not actively beg. Cindy loves to ride in the car and does so quietly. As well as walking nicely on a leash, Cindy can be trusted off leash, roaming happily in her foster home’s fenced yard. She knows “sit,” “stay,” “paw, and “heel. “A calm girl, Cindy is not afraid of thunderstorms or loud noises and is fine when left alone without canine companionship. Reportedly, she does fine with small animals and birds, having lived with all of them at one point during her lifetime. Although she had been exposed daily to a toddler with no problems at all, she may prefer a quieter household without young children in it. This sweet couch potato has never been very interested in toys. At her age, she is mostly interested in a good meal, loving attention, and a nap.
Cindy’s ideal forever home would be a quiet one where her people would give her acknowledgement often and she can lie near them. Since she enjoys spending time outdoors, sniffing the scents, Cindy needs a safe yard to explore. Having another lower energy canine companion would be fine with Cindy, too, but is not a necessity. Her forever family must be willing to allot time for Cindy’s medical needs like giving pills regularly, cleaning her ears frequently, and occasionally helping Cindy navigate obstacles and stairs. A home with many stairs would not be suitable for Cindy because of her arthritis.
Those who have adopted senior Springers know what a blessing they are. Cindy is all ready for her forever family to come and love her! Love and joy in abundance awaits this lucky family.
