Check out this cutie! Chubbs found his way to foster care from his Maryland home because his owner didn’t have the time to devote to raising a Springer pup. Brought into foster care the day before a certain hurricane hit the east coast, Chubbs’ foster parents were a little worried about having a six-month-old in the house when the weather outside was going to be so frightful. Fortunately, Chubbs appeared to be thoroughly unimpressed with the rain and went his first three days in foster care accident-free. He’s continued this streak of flawless housetraining since his arrival. What a good boy!
Although his name is Chubbs, this handsome boy is actually quite fit at his current weight. He came through his visit to the vet with flying colors, only whimpering a little bit for the microchipping and vaccines. Chubbs won over everyone at the vet’s office and the vet said she would adopt him herself in a heartbeat if she didn’t already have a full house. With his sweet temperament and good manners, it’s easy to fall in love. Chubbs tolerated his home grooming without complaint, but did grab his foster mom’s hand in his mouth a few times. As a young pup, he’s still learning that it’s not appropriate to be mouthy. After the grooming, it was time for a bath, which Chubbs loved! In fact, ever since his bath, he’s been trying to sneak back into the tub when his foster mom is in the shower!
MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs under 1 year old to enroll their puppy in an obedience class within 60 days of adoption. Since he is smart and eager to please, Chubbs is sure to be a star student.
A generally quiet guy, Chubbs sleeps through the night in his crate and also stays there when his foster parents are away from home. He plays hard and sleeps harder; if his foster mom is out for less than an hour, she generally has to wake Chubbs up to take him outside when she gets home! Chubbs also rides nicely in the car and stays off furniture at home. When he’s not playing, he can usually be found sleeping upside down on, or oozing out of, a dog bed.
Since he’s only six months old, Chubbs loves to chew on things! Fortunately, he’s pretty good about picking bones and toys, instead of human items. At any given time, he usually has four or five favorites in his bed for safekeeping.
Chubbs shares his foster home with three Springers and three cats. He accepted his place as low man in the pack after a few reprimands from each of the resident females. The young resident male and he get along famously and love to play. Because of his age, Chubbs is still learning proper canine etiquette. It helps that he has some other dogs in the house to model appropriate behavior and teach him how to respond to dog cues. The cats in the house have been a non-issue for Chubbs. He largely ignores them, showing only mild curiosity. Outside, he will sometimes make a game of chasing the cat out of the backyard. There’s never any harm done, as the resident kitty just hops the fence and scurries to the front door to be allowed back inside the house.
For Halloween, Chubbs dressed up as Captain America and helped hand out candy to the neighborhood kids. He tolerated his costume like a champ and was well behaved with all the people coming up to the house. In the end, it was a lot of excitement for this little guy. He fell asleep as soon as he went into his crate for the night.
Chubbs is a sweet and adorable youngster who is ready for his forever home. He gets along with people of all ages, but would probably live best with older children since he is still growing out of his puppy jumping and mouthing phase.
