Update 01/22/08:
Springers in foster care are often works in progress, especially younger ones such as Chrysanthemum. Her family can see that with over a month in their home, there’s been a marked change in her behavior over just the past week. Chrissie has always been friendly, playful and full of energy but now she doesn’t seem bothered by the resident dogs or by being approached while eating. With time to adjust to a new routine and surroundings, she’s less tense when she’s eating and around people. She gets walked daily on a leash. She pulls a little, perhaps due to her strong hunting instincts, but she no longer jumps when first meeting people. She will jump when she gets excited, as she often does, but her progress is very good.
Chrissie has boundless energy and requires plenty of playtime every day. She doesn’t try to jump the 4-foot fence around her yard, but when outside, she hunts constantly. She is even in this mode when in the house but has given up counter surfing and does excellently in her crate when her family is away.
Recently Chrissie spent a weekend with another MAESSR family while her foster parents traveled. There she met cats, and it was quickly clear that with her hunting instincts, she would see them as prey. She also met children that weekend. With her youthful energy and large size, she could accidentally but easily knock little ones down, so she is destined for an adopting family in which everyone is over 12 years.
At around 60 pounds, Chrissie’s a big boned Springer. She’s still a little thin but it’s hard to fatten up a dog who’s always in motion. She’s looking not only for active loving people to walk with but also a fenced yard where she can use that wonderful nose of hers and hunt til her heart’s content. For the prospective adopter who is looking for a good-natured, eager-to-please, bright, energetic Springer, this is their girl.
Original:
Chrissie (short for Chris Anthemum, a name given to her by shelter workers) was found as a stray, but no owners came to claim her. Her coat and nails showed signs of grooming in the past and she appears to be housebroken since she has had no accidents since she has been in her foster home. Chrissie is also crate-trained and goes right into her crate on her own.
Eager to please and full of energy, Chrissie loves people and other dogs. She loves to play catch and chew toys. She also enjoys riding in cars but needs to be fastened down. Although she is generally a very well-mannered Springer, Chrissie does pull on a leash but is improving her leash manners rapidly as her foster parents walk her regularly. In her exuberance and curiosity, Chrissie will jump up to greet people and she will counter surfer. These two habits are being addressed by her foster family. A real people dog, Chrissie does not like to go outside unless someone goes with her. During the time she spends in the house loose, there have not been any accidents or inappropriate chewing.
Her foster parents find her to be a joy to have in their family. Perhaps this beautiful Springer could further bloom in your family. She has a lot of love to share.
