Chipper is a very affectionate boy who is wonderful with people that he knows, including children as young as 3 and sleeps in bed with a 13-year-old child. He does not care for strangers and will take some time to warm up to them. He is fearful of crowds, and so his owner has avoided socializing him. Once he has decided that you are OK, he will relax but that may take time. He does well with the other dogs and cats in the house and is respectful of the horses on the property. He is housetrained, well behaved on a leash and in the house. Although he was crate-trained, he hates the crate and does not need it and can be left at large in the house. Chipper is let outside and he does not run off and on a nice day would rather be outside. He and the other dogs (2) love to lounge on the front porch. He does not jump on people, dig, chew or bark inappropriately. He will take unattended food from the kitchen counter. Although he is not big on swimming, he will play fetch with a ball or a frisbee all day and loves to play “tag” with the kids.
Chipper was born with a “super esophagus” and had surgery to correct it. However, his food dish must be raised up and must eat dry food in small amounts or he will throw up. Because he is left at large on a farm he will help himself to horse manure, then throw up in the house! Chipper is a wonderful dog who needs a home with someone who can provide more supervision of his food and can gently socialize him to a larger world.
Update:
Chipper found the family he has been looking for!
