Update 06/20/11:
With gains made on his health issues, it was hoped that Chip would prove suitable for adoption. Unfortunately, as his personality continued to emerge, it became clear that he could not be offered.
Update 05/31/11:
Chip recently went to the vet for a thorough check up. He was found to have significant hip dysplasia; fortunately, his spine appears to be in good shape. You would never guess this finding by his activity levels. Chip is in constant motion when he is outside chasing toys. His dysplasia will be managed with a glucosamine supplement, fish oil capsules, and pain meds. It is not expected to get any worse and he can expect to continue being an active boy.
Chip also had an epulis around one of his teeth. The vet felt this tumor should be removed and biopsied. It turned out to be a fibrous mass and benign – very good news! Blood work taken at the time also showed that Chip’s thyroid levels were low so he has been started on an inexpensive daily supplement.
Through all of his vet visits, Chip has been a model patient. It just shows what a great boy he is. Follow this one closely – he’ll be looking for his new family soon!!
Original:
When his Pennsylvania family was getting a divorce, Chip was relinquished to MAESSR. The mother in the family was concerned about being able to find a forever home in a neighborhood where there were not a lot of young children, because Chip does not care for young children. Since he has joined his foster family, he was started on an inexpensive medication to help his adjustment to his new life and to allay his anxiety Chip previously displayed around young children. His foster mom is hopeful that he will be able to be weaned off this medication in six months.
Chip LOVES squeaky toys! He will play with a squeaky for hours. Rubber and plastic toys are best for him since he tears up stuffed toys. Quite the cuddler, Chip loves to spend time with his family inside the house, but he also likes to go out for a run.
Well-trained, Chip knows sit, stay, come, down, and shake. Very trustworthy, Chip is allowed free roam of the house at all times. He is crate trained, too, and sometimes sleeps in his crate at night. When riding in the car, Chip should be crated since he has a history of chewing seat belts.
This sweet boy is looking for a mature forever family without young children.
