Chip came into rescue from Morris Animal Shelter in Philadelphia. He is a great dog. He is friendly, outgoing and very sweet. His first day into rescue, we spent an hour clipping, cutting, snipping and pulling mats out of his fur. He never once complained. He turned his head once or twice, but he was gentle and completely compliant.
Chip loved being back in a house. He is a little barky, but most of it is from enthusiasm. He loves playing with toys and other dogs. Chip pulls on a leash a little, but not enough to worry about. He is quiet in the car, but doesn’t like it much. Chip has had a bath or two so far. He doesn’t much like the hose, but getting lathered up is A-Ok! Chip is basically a great dog who will be wonderful in most homes.\
Update:
Chip is completely house broken and does not chew (not even his toys). He is not interested in getting on furniture. He will occasionally lounge on the ottoman, but prefers his bed on the floor. He likes to pick up stuffed animals carry them around, toss them in the air, and then use them as a pillow. He loves to play with a stick, he brings it back most of the time. Chip does not beg and is very gentle when taking his treats.
Chip will greet company with a few quick barks and a big wiggle of his entire rearend. He loves people and has been around children as young as five. Chip likes to run with dogs as they play. Chip likes most dogs as long as they do not challenge him, he will stand up for himself. He is not sure how to play with “aggressive play” dogs. He prefers to run and chase, not roll around. He has been exposed to several dogs of all sizes. He did not show interest in the cat at the vet’s office, but he does like to watch the squirrels from the back deck.
Chip will scratch at the door when he wants out. He does not like to be closed in a small area.
Chip is a very special dog looking for a family to call his own.
Update:
From his adoptive home:
Just wanted to let you know how much we are enjoying Chip. He has the run of the house and sleeps in our room. We pretend not to notice that he sometimes naps on the furniture when we are gone.
We walk around the neighborhood finding people to “not bark” at and he has made a lot of friends, adults, children, and other dogs.
He has a crate to ride in and we have started an obedience class at the kennel in VA that I have gone to for years. His “I’m excited” barking has already lessened and we are getting better attention from him. It is very low key, treat-based, and mainly focused on the canine good citizen program. He does the interacting with strangers VERY WELL! It is mostly for fun, though I would like to try agility there later on.
