Update 6/7/04:
Since coming back into foster care, Chief’s foster mom has reported that he is a very good boy, who LOVES and NEEDS to run and exercise and play. He is a dominant boy with all other animals though so his perfect home will be one with only human companions. Chief loves the 10 year old boy who comes to his foster home and loves to play with all people. Chief is crate trained and house broken. He will wine in his foster home if he is crated when his foster mom is home, but she reports it is not bad. Chief is a countersurfer and will chew if left alone so crating will be necessary when he is not supervised. Chief loves all kinds of chews and he shreds toys. He is good in the car and loves, water, ponds, ditches, etc. He loves to walk in the woods and weaves back and forth tracking. As we like to say, a tired dog is a good dog, and that could not be more true for Chief. He has puppy exuberance yet and needs at least an hour of daily exercise. Chief would do well with an obedience class with his new family as he has been in many homes in his short life and this will help him to bond. We think Chief would like agility too. Are you the one looking for a new chief love?
Update 2/27/04:
Chief is now in his forever home!
Original:
Chief is a good boy that still is very playful and likes to chase squirrels and watch everything that is going on outside. He looks out the window in the living room, and alerts his foster family to anything moving outside. He loves to runn up and down the fence with the neighbor’s dog. Chief will jump a fence, so you need to be outside with him.
Chief is crate trained, sits on command and stays off the furniture. Every now and than he tests how much he can get on the couch before his foster family reminds him he’s not allowed. He has picked up some socks and shoes but drops them as soon as he is corrected. He does like to play with balls and toys. He will shred stuffed toys. He is improving at letting go of the ball. You have to tell him very sternly and put your hand into the mouth before he lets go. He plays with zest. He will nibble on cothing. but when he realizes that he grabbed a person he will let go. He has shown no agresstion with people, but, he would like to be top dog amongst his fellow canines. He tried to prove he was the dominant dog with the other dogs in his foster home. He seemed to be trying to find his place in the pack. Things have calmed down recently.
