Original: “Cheyenne is a smart, independent gal who wants to be in the thick of things.”
Cheyenne and her litter mates, Cherokee, Sweet Sioux, and Pocahontas were four of five dogs surrendered by a Good Samaritan who had cared for them for four months after finding them dumped on his property. They were in an Ohio shelter for a month before coming to MAESSR. Cheyenne has now been reunited with her brother Cherokee and enjoys playing with him in her foster family’s back yard.
Enjoying her status as only daughter in the family, Cheyenne is a smart, independent gal who wants to be in the thick of things. She learned to walk on a leash in less than a week, and while she does occasionally get distracted or frightened by loud noises and children, she is never aggressive. She is still a puppy at heart, and her manners continue to be a work in progress. She is willing to learn, but sometimes gets very excited and forgets. She does respond to correction from her people and the resident Springer who barks at her when he feels that she is being naughty!
Cheyenne’s foster family is still working on sitting, counter-surfing, chewing and housetraining. She rarely has accidents in the house, but does not signal when she has to go out to relieve herself. Her foster family lets her out every few hours during the day; she sleeps through the night with no accidents. Cheyenne shows no interest in furniture, and when no one is home, she has free run of the main level of the house. She usually chooses to nap the day away under the breakfast table. Cheyenne comes to the door when she is called or when she has had enough play time.
This lovely lady tolerates her baths well and while her short hair requires brushing, it may not need formal grooming. She rode in a crate to her foster home and needed some supervision on the one car ride she has had since. She’s not quite ready to relax and enjoy the view.
Cheyenne is a high energy pup and will need a home willing to give her daily long walks. She enjoys running, playing and napping in the backyard so a fenced in area would also be a good idea. MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs 1 year old and younger to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption.
Cheyenne loves to give kisses and will be so happy greet you when you come home. She will melt your heart with her love, playfulness, energy and affection. Watch for future updates as she has her first vet visit and this spunky, sassy Springer girl finds her forever home.
