Update 11/24/2013: “His new medication has really given him a new outlook on life, as he’s no longer plagued by extreme hunger.”
Chester has done so very well in his foster home! His new medication has really given him a new outlook on life, as he’s no longer plagued by extreme hunger.
Although he still likes to check out what’s on the countertop from time to time, Chester’s sweet disposition keeps him from getting into too much trouble when his nose does a little surfing up there.
At night Chester loves to be close to his foster dad. So close, that he’s designated himself as his foster dad’s pillow! Chester thinks that this is a great arrangement.
Taking a ride in the car is a great pleasure for Chester. He is always trying to get in the car, hoping he might go on the road.
This loving boy is ready for a forever home. Snuggle up with him at bedtime or take him on the road……Chester is ready to roll!
Original: “MAESSR has given Chester the chance to have the life he always deserved…as a Springer boy that anyone would love to have as a family member.”
Young Chester lived with his family in Pennsylvania. At age 1-1/2, he was diagnosed with seizures. He was put on medication to control the seizures, but the meds made him HUNGRY which caused Chester to be on a constant search for food. He would open cabinets, turn over trash cans, and even break through the invisible fence to eat the cat food left out by neighbors. Chester’s family worked with the vet and a nutritionist, trying to solve the problem. They even tried different variations of the medication without success. It had gotten to the point that his family had no quality of life because they were trying to keep him from eating everything he could find. Chester wasn’t leading a very happy life, either, because he was always in trouble. His family turned to MAESSR for assistance to see if we could help Chester with his problem and to find him a new home. While his family was devastated, they felt that they had tried everything possible to create a peaceful home environment.
Chester came to his foster home and was overwhelmed at first by the other dogs and all of the changes. He settled into the routine and went to the MAESSR vet to see if other medications could possibly work for him. After a change in medication, his constant hunger subsided. At first he was so doped up that his foster mom could not see him living like that. A change in the medication dosage and schedule now has Chester acting like a normal Springer. The medication cost is approximately $50 per month, but it is invaluable to this sweet boy.
A cuddly sweetheart, Chester loves to sleep with his foster parents at night. Since he tries to steal all of the pillows, his foster mom has to move him to the foot of the bed. Anyone looking for a foot-warmer this winter should look no further than Chester!
Chester is completely housetrained. Although he will check out the counters occasionally, he is easily called off. He loves taking rides in the car. Chester can be touched, poked, and prodded in all sorts of ways without incident. This boy does not have a mean bone in his body!
MAESSR has given Chester the chance to have the life he always deserved…as a Springer boy that anyone would love to have as a family member. Chester’s adoptive family will need to provide him with his medication for the rest of his life. It is a small price to pay for this priceless pup!
