Chelsea came to MAESSR from a woman in Virginia who had her since she was a pup. Her owner’s living situation changed dramatically a couple of years ago; she went from owning a large home with a big fenced yard to living in a very small studio apartment with no yard. Chelsea was used to having lots of space to run and play and now had to be on a leash whenever taken outdoors. The apartment was so small that there wasn’t even sufficient space for Chelsea to exercise a bit indoors. Her owner felt that Chelsea was very unhappy and suffering from lack of exercise. Realizing that Chelsea would be better off in another environment, MAESSR was contacted to help find her a new home
Chelsea’s foster dad describes her disposition as very sweet. She gets along well with the resident two-year old male Springer, tolerating and participating in his shenanigans. Her former owner had grown children with families and dogs of their own and she got along well with all of them. Chelsea is happy to be off leash and running around outside on long walks. She is most happy just to be hanging out with her people. Understandably, Chelsea has a few extra pounds to lose, so her new ability to exercise is just the antidote for slimming down.
A smart girl, Chelsea knows all the basic commands: “sit,” “down,” “stay,” “shake,” etc. She also is pretty good on or off the leash. Off leash she runs around and likes to roll on her back on the ground – ah, freedom! She does come when called, never getting too far out of one’s sight. She is fine in the car.
Chelsea brought along some toys to the foster home but does not play with them much. She will chew a hoof or a synthetic bone while relaxing occasionally and to keep it from the resident Springer. While Chelsea enjoys a good meal, she does not resource guard; and, although she may be inclined to try to be the first one at the other dog’s food, she does not persist. Good girl!
At the groomer’s Chelsea was fine, albeit a little nervous. She was a good girl for her vet visit.
Chelsea is most happy when she is with her people. Her ideal home would be one where she isn’t left alone a lot; another dog around might help that. Some exercise a couple times a day would, of course, be good for Chelsea. She is comfortable with children and adults alike; on the whole, Chelsea is just your basic sweet, Velcro Springer! Doesn’t she sound like the perfect Christmas gift for your family?
