Original: “Chase is a very, very young eleven year old who has no problems with stairs or outside play.”
Chase became a MAESSR boy when his Pennsylvania family was unable to take him when they moved and turned him in at a shelter.
This love is totally mellow, definitely a lover rather than a fighter, and, when confronted, chooses flight over fight. He is under 40 pounds having lost some weight with regular exercise in his foster home. While he is described as liver and white, his “liver” is a sunburned color; his face is completely colored and his ears have the shorter appearance more common to a Brittany. Chase is a very, very young eleven year old who has no problems with stairs or outside play.
Foster mom has not yet discovered if Chase has a signal when he needs to go outside. Consequently, he has piddled in the house upon occasion—this could also be caused by some separation anxiety complicated by recovery from his UTI.
He is currently living in a household with other dogs and cats—Chase is fine with everyone and since his home is puppy-proofed, he has had no opportunity to counter-surf or trash dive although he might also be limited by his short stature. Similarly, he has not chewed anything inappropriate except for his crates be they soft sided or wire. This guy does not like to be crated and has broken some teeth attacking the pesky things that limit his freedom. His foster mother feels that claustrophobia rather than willful destruction may be the cause of this behavior. He does enjoy having the run of the house when she is at home and chooses to plop on a dog bed wherever he can be close to his people.
Chase knows “sit,” knows to come when his name is called, and has a cute totally unique behavior of spinning while he waits for his dinner. He pulls a bit on his leash but does settle down and is probably good off leash as he doesn’t react to outside stimuli. He can still get into mischief and is energetic enough to climb the house barriers to reach the yummy cat leavings. He rides well crated in the car, settling down after just a few minutes of fuss—naturally, he thinks he’d be more comfortable on the seat.
This is a nice, easy to have around fellow who will benefit from a home in which he can be monitored and learn to let his family know what he needs. Don’t be fooled by his age as he has plenty of spunk and energy to spare.
