Original: Charles is a very handsome field bred Springer who has already had two homes in his young life; his puppy energy was apparently too much for both. After an overnight stay in a local shelter, he was relinquished to MAESSR. Due to all the sudden changes in his life, Charles had an upset digestive system but is recovering just fine with medication and a stress-free, loving environment in his foster home.
At seven months old, Charles is a typical young Springer who is always ready to run and play when outside or to get some loving attention when inside. Charles and the resident Springers get along well, although Charles always wants the toy one of the others has. When out on his walks, his nose is always to the ground as he is very interested in what passed through before him. If a bird flies by or chirps, Charles goes into alert and would bolt off in chase if given the chance. He loves to fetch anything his foster family throws for him. His long legs make him look like he is prancing when he runs, and this boy can jump quite high to catch a ball in mid-flight.
Charles seems to be pretty well housebroken. He also loves chewing on puppy toys but has brought sneakers and slippers to his foster mom; he does give them up after a brief chase. Charles is crate trained and he willingly retreats to his crate when told to “kennel up”. He sleeps in his crate quietly overnight, but as soon as he sees his foster mom, he starts wagging his long, full tail showing that he is ready to romp. Charles is quickly learning not to pull when walking on a leash. He knows sit, paw, and will come when you call him when he is inside the house. When he goes outside, his puppy energy and field breeding is very evident: he wants to run and hunt! He does not yet respond to recall outside the house since he is so focused on the sights and scents of being outdoors. Until he learns to come when called, he should not be allowed off leash in open areas. Charles loves running freely in the dog park and interacts well with the people and dogs he meets there. Charles likes to ride a car but has done best when crated or restrained since he would prefer sitting in the driver’s lap!
Charles plays well with everyone of all ages and would love to have an active family who is willing to give this boy some structure, training, and lots of love.
