At 21 inches tall and 46 pounds, Chandler is an athletically-built young Springer. He was rescued from a shelter in West Virginia and must have gotten lots of exercise before his arrival there. He is a rich liver and white color with a healthy sheen to his wavy coat. A few freckles speckle his nose and front legs……a very handsome fellow.
Chandler is beginning to learn basic commands in his foster home. He is a quick study and understands “sit”, is working on a “down”, “OK” as a release, and is getting leash work daily. Right now he is often pulling, but he will often accept a change of direction with only a word or two. A basic obedience course with his adoptive family would benefit him immensely. He has lots of energy to burn off and does part of that off leash in a 6 x 28 foot run. He loves to be outside and his nose never stops sniffing in as much scent as it can hold. He doesn’t mind getting his feet wet when crossing the creek, but has shown no interest in going for a swim yet.
The resident dogs in Chandler’s foster home are seniors, one female and one male, and much smaller than him. He gets along with them well, not pestering for play, but he would probably enjoy having another playmate closer to his own size. He has learned to accept treats, alongside his foster siblings, by sitting politely and resisting the urge to snatch. He also loves a Kong filled with treats.
He’s comfortable with the sounds and activities of a home and settles quietly on the floor when evening comes. He has attempted counter surfing once or twice, but responded to a quick “off.” He is crate trained and goes in willingly for a milk bone treat or his meals. He sleeps through nights in his crate and during daytime hours when the foster family works. The remainder of his time is spent closer to wherever his foster mom is in the house. He loves ear, chin, and belly rubs, and is learning to “give paw.”
Chandler hasn’t met children or cats since he has been in foster care. With his youthful enthusiasm he bumps into the resident dogs and foster mom occasionally, so children should probably be at least as big as he is. His view of cats is unknown.
Chandler has a steady, engaging personality and a wiggly tail that matches his nose for action. Whenever he can’t be found in the house, he’s sure to be sitting at the back door ready to go out. He is ready for an adoptive family who will complete his basic education and enjoy spending lots of time outside with him.
