CeCe was taken in at a Maryland shelter as a stray. She was groomed and dewormed, treated topically for fleas, given vaccinations, and kept for the required time before being released to MAESSR. Approximately five years old, CeCe has a shiny coat and very pretty liver and white markings. She is large for a female and weighs 53 pounds. She is not overweight – just a big girl.
Now living with her foster parents, CeCe also shares the home with a canine foster brother. The two pups get along very well as he is friendly and outgoing and about the same age. CeCe went to her foster parents’ vet who noted that she had infected and yeasty ears and that she had crepitus in her hind legs. She is being treated for both conditions. She is good about receiving her ear medication. The crepitus will require the joint supplement long term. The vet also noted that CeCe was “bright”, “alert” and “responsive.”
CeCe has not met any cats while in foster care. She gets along well with other dogs and is unknown with children. She is very submissive in contact with people or other dogs and will lower her head as well as roll on her back. Until she gets to know someone, CeCe is anxious. She loves attention and petting and likes to cuddle with her people.
This good girl has been the best houseguest. She is housetrained and asks to go out by standing at the door or scratching the door if needed. She has had no accidents. Her foster parents provided CeCe with her name which she has learned quickly. She will “come” when called, “sit,” “give paw,” and “lie down” on command. She is allowed on the sofa and sleeps there and on the bedroom floor. CeCe will come up the kitchen counter to look but has been discouraged; she has not counter-surfed. The trash is not readily available to her, but she has shown no interest in the trash can.
CeCe is very alert and “game driven.” She chases the squirrels in the fenced yard and will keep them “treed” for hours as she sits and “locks on” from the ground. She loves to lie on the top of the steps on the porch and nap and keep tabs on things. CeCe is not destructive in any way and has damaged nothing. She does not play with toys or chew them.
It is unknown how she is with groomer as the shelter did not say and her nails have not been clipped.
CeCe is a very sweet, affectionate girl that loves attention. Still a bit anxious, she is alert and responds well to most situations. She has not barked, growled, or curled a lip since arriving in foster care, even when the resident dog was being a pest about play.
She is very frightened by thunder and was allowed on the bed with the resident male during a storm. That was a one-time allowance as her foster parents do not want to encourage getting on the bed anytime she wants. With the negative thunder reaction, they are certain that fireworks will be very scary for her.
CeCe will walk on leash but will pull if there is an interesting smell. She is always alert for squirrels or rabbits and such. She is fine meeting new people and dogs on walks. CeCe likes the water on the local river and will chase visiting ducks about 20 feet and then leave them alone. She will respond to a strong “Dad voice” if she is investigating dead crabs and fish and will come away.
Both dogs are fed on the kitchen floor on different sides of the island out of view of each other. CeCe is submissive about food and will roll on her back until assured that it is okay. She will then eat normally and then the two dogs will swap empty bowls.
Her foster parents believe CeCe would do well in a single-family home with fenced yard and a dog-savvy adopter who can spend time with her. A bird-lover with bird feeders would be ideal as she could have a “job” keeping squirrels away. She would be fine also as only dog or with a canine brother or sister.
CeCe will be spayed later this month. Keep an eye out post recovery for this sweetie to be available to join her forever home.
