When a Pennsylvania animal shelter with which MAESSR has mutual volunteers got in a litter of four English Springer Spaniel/English Shepherd mix puppies, MAESSR was asked for help in placing them as their shelter was really full and this would allow space for another needy dog or two from a kill shelter. At the shelter these adorable brothers that look more like field bred Springers would sleep in a pile on top of each other in their kennel. Now, Casper and his littermates, Magic, Simon, and Spooky, have been moved to two foster homes where they continue to thrive.
As friendly as Casper the Friendly Ghost, MAESSR’s Casper just wants to be your friend! Happiness to him means being held and cuddled. When Casper’s foster mom picks him up to hold him, he just melts into her lap and arms. He has met small toddlers and children and does well with these little one as well as all adults! He has attended two MAESSR events and has done very well in all the commotion of getting everything ready for the event and he seemed to enjoy all the attention he received from the event’s visitors. One event held a parade and Casper sat quietly beside his brother Spooky, watching the parade in amazement! Casper did well at the vet’s office, too, with the staff just adoring him. Casper was happy to see his foster mom come to pick him up after spending a night for his neutering and extra dew claw removal, though. He had to wear a cone for several days because he kept going after his bandage on his leg, but wearing the Elizabethan collar did not concern him at all.
Casper gets along with all the resident dogs in his foster home and knows his place in the pack. As for the resident cats, they are just too scary for Casper and he prefers to stay away from them just like his brother Spooky. Such a good boy!
When it’s time to eat, Casper knows just where to go and he really likes his food! Anticipating his meal, he gets so excited that he has to check out the counter to see if he could grab a morsel or two before the bowl goes into the crate. Of course, once that bowl starts heading in the crate’s direction, Casper hops up and down like a rabbit all the way to the crate! He is doing well on his housetraining and readily runs outside with the resident dogs. It took Casper only seconds to learn that the doggy door is his way out of the house and into the yard.
His foster mom is teaching Casper to “sit”and “wait” and he is doing fairly well on these commands especially where food is the great reward! He likes to go for walks and does pretty well on a leash. As per MAESSR requirements of young pups, obedience classes will be highly beneficial for Casper to grow into a well trained adult dog. Casper rides well in the car once he is inside and the car starts moving. His favorite spot there is next to his foster mom where you can find him cuddling, napping, or watching out the window.
Please note that MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs under 1 year old to enroll their puppy in an obedience class within 60 days of adoption. Eager to please, Casper will be a good pupil.
Casper has such adoring and soft eyes and looks at his foster mom with total trust and love. A Velcro boy already, Casper likes to know where his foster mom is and be near her. Another favorite playmate is his brother, Spooky. They like to play with each other and with toys, often running around outside in the backyard chasing each other! At bedtime, Casper knows to go into the puppy pen as it is there where the bedtime snack is served. Casper settles down nicely for bedtime to be well rested for the next day of play!
This sweet boy just wants to be your friend forever. An active but yet gentle pup, he wants to please and to be loved on, being held and cuddled. Casper is ready to find his forever home, where his family will enrich his life with learning how to be a fabulous adult dog. In turn, Casper will devote himself to his people and giving them all his love. With such adoring eyes full of love, you’ll be sure to fall in love with this little friendly ghost. Are you ready to be “haunted” for a life with a companion such as this loving little Casper?
