Casey has been an absolute joy in his foster home! For the first few days, he was very hand shy around his head and afraid of all the new experiences. He would flop to the ground in fear at the approach of his foster mom. He quickly warmed up and has learned she is great supplying him with yummy treats, tennis balls, great chew bones, and other toys. Casey loves to play with his toys and entertains himself with them. He also readily gives up any toy, and even the yummiest of bones, to his foster mom placing them right in her hand.
Initially, Casey cried in his crate for the first couple days, but since has learned the routine so he no longer does this. His foster mom didn’t listen to his crying so as to not validate his concerns and, instead, stuck to his routine. This worked great for Casey! Now, his foster mom just walks to his crate and tells him, “In you go!” and he happily complies and gladly accepts his treat. He is housetrained. Casey is submissive to all of the other dogs in the foster home and loves to be with his people.
At his vet visit, Casey was very good and was fine for ear cleaning and medicating. He is also fine getting his meds in his ears at home as he has a mild yeast infection which is being treated. Casey is also very good for the groomer and has been going to the same place for his spa treatment since he was a puppy.
Because Casey is so head/hand shy, it is not recommended that he go to a forever home where very young children permanently reside. Visiting grandchildren would be fine and he was very good with the two-year-old granddaughter of his previous owners. Casey needs a family who will take him to a positive reinforcement training class to ensure that he builds his confidence and no longer feels the threat of abuse. Although MAESSR requires dogs one year and under to attend training classes with their adopted family, it is definitely a very important piece of Casey’s success; therefore, this is a requirement for his adoption.
Casey is a sweet, happy boy once he’s sure you don’t mean him any harm. He’s funny, entertaining and full of life. Do you have a soft heart and a need for a best friend? Casey would love to be yours!
