Update 12/29/08:
Casey returned to MAESSR’s care and is in search of a home where she need not share her people with other dogs. This was a difficult decision for Casey’s adoptive family. She was the very loving addition they had hoped for months back but Casey simply did not get along with their resident Springer. They felt it would be in her best interest to be an only dog and know the right family is awaiting her.
Original:
Casey was relinquished along with her mother Irish when their original family lost their home. It was very obvious when first meeting Casey with her original family that she was well loved. Casey is a beautiful girl with a silky coat and a sweet temperament. Casey was reported to have been very good with her former owners’ grandchildren ages one to four.
Casey is living with her mother Irish and two resident female Springers in her foster home. All four ladies are getting along very well. Casey is a big lap girl. She was allowed on all the furniture and any open lap in her former home. She used to sleep on the bed with her former owners. The first night in her new foster home, Irish was sitting in her foster mom’s lap on the porch. Casey jumped up in her mom’s lap, too. She sort of perched on the edge of her foster mom’s knees with her wiggle butt up in the air and nose down for balance. It was quite comical!
Casey’s true love is fetching anything. She can always be found with a tennis ball in her mouth. She will chase all day if someone will throw for her. She wasn’t impressed with one of the resident dog’s big brush pile that she loves to nose around in. Casey prefers the kind of fun her humans can provide like throwing a ball for her. She is a typical Velcro dog and is happiest with her people! She’s glad to go on a car ride and she does very well in the car except she gets car sick if it is too hot and there is no air flow in the back where she is riding. Keep that AC flowing and she’s a happy girl!
When she is indoors, Casey loves being on the couch with her foster family. She is polite about getting down when asked but is quite the little boomerang and will be right back before her foster mom sits back down. Casey finally wore her foster mom down and is allowed on the couch with her foster family and the other dogs. But, she is not allowed on the bed. She had never been in a crate before and was scared when in one in her foster home. So, she and her foster mom compromised and now she happily sleeps on a comfy dog bed in the laundry room behind a baby gate at night and when her foster family is away. She has full run of the house when her foster family is at home. This snuggle bunny is usually not too far from her foster mom.
Casey had a minor ear infection when she came into foster care. She has been very good about having drops put in her ears. She was also very patient while her foster mom trimmed the hair around her ears.
Casey is housetrained and polite in the house. She listens very well to her foster mom. She does very well with a calm, assertive command. Casey loves to bark at people, though. A quick “knock it off” from her foster mom has her stopping right away. She comes back when called if she is getting too close to the edge of the yard. She is learning the invisible fence to have some more freedom in the yard. Although she had never been walked on a leash before, Casey was great on her first walk. She was wonderful on a leash, staying right beside her foster mom the whole time and not pulling at all. Casey is a fast learner and even though she doesn’t understand “sit” all the time, she knows sitting brings good things like a treat or a walk. She is the first to hit the floor when everyone comes in from the last potty break for a treat before bed! This young Springer girl will do well with a basic obedience class to continue learning commands that her foster mom is teaching her.
Casey will be a wonderful addition to an active family that does not mind if she cuddles on the couch or bed with them.
