Updated 11/19/05: Casey is an active and petite girl, weighing just 34 pounds. Her adoptive family felt she was not getting enough exercise and seemed bored in their home. She would run the house, looking out all the windows as if watching for creatures to hunt. They felt she would be happier with a family who could give her more of their time and a chance to run off more of her energy outdoors.
Since coming back into rescue, Casey has done really well. She currently lives with three resident dogs and has a ball just running and playing in the backyard with them. Casey loves to growl and grunt when she plays, and for small girl, can sound like a grizzly bear! She can be protective of squeaky toys that resemble birds but has no issues with other toys or bones. After some exercise, she settles down to chew a bone or fall asleep in a lap.
Casey has free run of the house when her foster dad is at work and has been well mannered in all ways. She is completely housetrained and seems to like everyone and everything she meets.
She is a wonderful girl who will jump into your lap and into your heart. Like most springers, she is at her best when she has a daily opportunity to play and run off her energy. The adage, “A tired dog is a good dog” must have been coined by a springer owner and fits Casey to a tee. Having other dogs to play with in her adopting home would be great. Having a family who will match her zest for an active life would be perfect!!!!!!
Updated 11/8/05: Casey has come back in to rescue through no fault of her own. More information will be coming soon from her foster home.
Updated 8/16/05: Casey was spayed and is doing well with her recovery. She is looking forward to getting her stitches out because she hates her Elizabethan collar. Her foster mom has told her that she wouldn’t have to wear it if she’d leave her stitches alone, but no go. Her family has discovered a few dislikes of hers, none of which are unusual or insurmountable. Casey gets scared during thunderstorms and when the lawn mower is running, and doesn’t like the vacuum cleaner at all.
Something else her family has noticed about Casey is that, with a close look at her front feet, one can see they are both slightly deformed. The outside toe is very small and toward the middle of the paw on both front feet. Her foster mom assures that it doesn’t affect her gait, and, certainly not her ability to spring several feet into the air from a standstill!
The house rabbit is quite an attraction for Casey and she will not leave it alone. Fortunately, it has its own “safe zone,” just like Casey. So, although she formerly lived with a cat, her foster mom would suggest caution to an adopting family to ensure that Casey does know the difference. The resident puppy is another challenge. He harasses Casey to play and she sometimes growls at him to leave her alone, which he doesn’t always do. The puppy is treating his foster brothers the same way and they get fed up too. Those needle-sharp baby teeth hurt, but everyone knows the pup will lose them soon.
Casey is still a sweetheart and craves attention from her people. She is a well-mannered, young adult who could fit into many homes so easily. All she needs is lots of cuddling, especially during thunderstorms, and a “safe space” when the vacuum is running!
Original: Casey is a beautiful, petite “fieldie” girl with the long ears of a bench bred springer. She was turned over to MAESSR due to a change in her family’s circumstances. She grew up with another dog, a cat and was raised with an infant who is now a toddler. She is getting along great with her 4-legged foster brothers, ages 16 weeks, 4 years and 13 years, and with her 2-legged foster brother who is 7 years old.
Casey is also a major love bug. This girl loves attention, especially ear rubs. Casey is reportedly trained to hunt and will stay close off leash. She loves toys and enjoys carrying them around. Casey has jumped up at the counters to scope things out but doesn’t seriously counter-surf. So far, she is leaving the garbage can alone.
As she settles in at her foster home and her family learns more about her, updates on Casey will be added.
