What possibly could be cuter than a Springer puppy? Nine Springer puppies! It’s raining puppies in MAESSRland since a Maryland family’s purebred Springers got together and had an accidental litter. MAESSR quickly offered its assistance to the overwhelmed family in finding good, loving homes for the nine puppies. Since this windfall came in the fall, the pups were given names reflecting the beautiful colors of the season.
Carmine is a sweet and typical mischievous Springer puppy. Quiet at first, he has quickly found his voice and his legs at his foster home. He is a ball of energy and never misses an opportunity to run around the house and yard. Carmine especially enjoys playing with tennis balls and munching on a good dog biscuit! He is taking the lead from the resident Springers with regard to barking at planes and birds as well as exploring every inch of his surroundings. He is also incredibly affectionate and especially loves to lie on his foster mom’s feet for a nap after a romp around the backyard. While he enjoys being outside with the resident dogs, he never takes his eyes of his foster mom for very long. He simply loves being close to people and will never turn down a good cuddle.
With regard to commands, Carmine is learning the basics. His foster mom is diligently working on sit and stay with him and he is making progress. Although it is still very new to him, he is also getting accustomed to wearing a collar and being on a leash. MAESSR requires that all adopted dogs a year and younger must be taken for obedience training with their forever family, so additional training is in Carmine’s future.
While he still has some accidents in the house, Carmine’s potty training is also under way and he improves daily. Most times he will run to the back door to let his foster mom know that he needs to go outside. When riding in the car, he has been in a crate and is an angel; he simply lies down and goes along for the ride. Carmine is also crated when his foster mom is not at home.
Good with both dogs and cats, Carmine does enjoy cornering the resident cats; however, it is simply to play and he will not hurt them. He will also raid the cat food if your back is turned so if he should be adopted into a home with cats, this will most likely need to be addressed. He does not show any interest in chewing on furniture but socks and shoelaces are another story – especially if you are trying to put them on. It turns into a small and amusing game of tug of war at times.
Carmine is an absolute doll and with continued training and a loving home, he will thrive as a member of a lucky family.
