Original: “She has free roam of her home but normally she stays in the room where her people are.”
Carli was relinquished by her only owner due to fights (albeit infrequent) with the beagle sharing their New Jersey home. The cause was generally that Carli did not want to share “dad.” Due to recent surgery, her owner was not able to separate the girls during a spat. So, this Jersey girl is now a MAESSR girl.
A wonderful house guest with a lovely demeanor, Carli is housetrained and goes to the door if she needs to go out. She has free roam of her home but normally she stays in the room where her people are. An obvious follower of Miss Manners, Carli’s behavior inside is impeccable with no counter-surfing, no trash can raiding, and no chewing. She is allowed on one piece of furniture but stays off all others. She doesn’t even hint about jumping up on a restricted chair or couch. At night she sleeps happily on her own dog bed which she likes.
At the groomer and the vet, Carli got excellent marks on her behavior. This was impressive as toenail trimming and anal gland expression were involved. Good girl, Carli!
Carli does not resource guard her food. She has continual access to her food bowl in the kitchen which is filled in the morning. Her usual eating time is in the evening but she does not beg at her foster parents’ table.
Since this is COVID time, Carli hasn’t met many people on her walks. Although she barks at first, she becomes quite friendly when properly introduced. She has not met children or cats yet; however, her foster mom hopes to test Carli with kids eventually. When she meets other dogs on walks, she is inconsistent. Sometimes she will growl and pull and other times she will just ignore. Her foster mom gets a better reaction with Carli if she is “talked down” instead of given a sharp “no” or a pull on the leash. Just saying: “Carli, don’t bother with them” and changing her focus achieves the desired result.
This sweet girl knows the commands “sit,” “stay,” and “wait.” She is terrific on a leash, too. She was transported to her foster home in a crate and she was just fine– scared, but just fine. She is actually great on car rides.
Carli would love an adult forever home without another dog. She loves positive attention and if her new parents give her positive affirmations they will get great results.
If this loving, low key dog could write an ad in the personals it would say, “Loving female seeking long term relationship.” Until that ad is answered, her foster family is thrilled to spend time with her.Stay tuned as she continues to be tested with new things in her environment and is becoming more playful every day.
