Original: “Cannon is such a lover boy! He just wants to cuddle up with his person and be loved.”
Cannon and Jersey were surrendered to a Virginia shelter when their owners of 11 years were going through a divorce. Both dogs were in bad shape. The shelter staff shaved them down since their coats looked terrible and they were very concerned that no one would be interested in the two senior dogs. A MAESSR volunteer found out about them and the rescue group immediately jumped into action, moving these two seniors to a foster home. Cannon and Jersey were originally thought to be bonded, but once they had settled into their foster home they showed that, while they liked each other, neither was dependent on the other. Therefore they will be placed separately.
Cannon is such a lover boy! He just wants to cuddle up with his person and be loved. He has a wonderful temperament and shows no signs of aggression. Additionally, Cannon has excellent house manners. He is completely housetrained. Although crate trained, crating him is unnecessary. This good boy does not counter-surf or trash dive.
When out on a walk, Cannon is very good on leash. He loves to ride in the car and is a very good passenger.
When he first came to MAESSR, Cannon needed a dental cleaning. He had to have seven teeth pulled. The vet also noted a soft, fleshy mass on the lingual aspect of his left lower first molar, so a biopsy was taken. The results indicated an extramedullary plasmacytoma. The recommendation was to go back into his mouth and take wider margins in the hopes of capturing all of it. So, Cannon went through another dental procedure and another biopsy was sent for evaluation. Good news: the results came back that the margins were clean. There is still potentially a low risk of local recurrence so the vet recommended having his adopting family monitor it closely.
This sweet boy has been through so much in his life. He now deserves to have a warm, loving home to live out his golden years. In addition to displaying terrific house manners, Cannon will love you and cuddle with you…what more can you possibly ask for?
