When Callie was picked up by animal control in rural Virginia, every effort was made to contact her owner using the information from her rabies tag. Unfortunately, these efforts were unsuccessful and Callie ended up in need of MAESSR’s help.
One of the sweetest dogs her foster mom has met, Callie was clearly well loved at some point in her history. She loves people and other animals and is very easy going. Callie is housetrained and will pace near the door to be let out. She is not fond of crates, but after some encouragement to get in she settles down. She howls a little when her foster mom first leaves for the day, but not too much.
Callie’s house manners are impeccable. She does not counter-surf nor does she get into the trash can. She was evidently taught not to get on the furniture as she has made no attempt to do so. Callie has not chewed inappropriately on anything. When she realized she had been accepted into the dog pack at her foster home, she began lying on the big dog bed in the living room, hogging the entire thing!
When meeting other people and dogs, Callie wags her tail and wants to make friends. She does not seem to know any commands and pulls on the leash when going for walks. Callie’s foster mom first tried putting her in a crate in the car, but she resisted each time. Finally, she let Callie ride loose, and she jumped right into the front seat and lay down quietly.
This girl loves toys! Her favorite is a pink pig. She walks around the house with the pig in her mouth, wagging her tail. She has tried to make friends with the resident dogs. The older girl and young male tolerate her, but will not play with her while the two younger Springer girls will play with her. Callie is very laidback and very low energy. She does not guard toys or food and hasn’t shown any aggression during her time in foster care. She is fed in a hallway near the kitchen so she will not have to feel like she must gobble her food.
Callie was great at the vet! She was very good about having her ears cleaned and getting her shots. She has a small sebaceous cyst on her left side, which is typical of middle aged dogs. She has never been to a groomer but does not mind having her paws touched or held. She really enjoys being brushed.
