Original: Due to changes in her family’s life, they were no longer able to provide time, attention, or exercise for Caela (Kay-la) and chose to relinquish her to MAESSR.
She is now settling in at her foster home and trying to adjust to all the changes in her world. In her previous home, she lived with a 14-year-old male Springer, a baby, and a toddler. Caela was heavily crated, so she is just now discovering many new things in her foster home, including two young Springers who desperately want to play with her. She is quite taken aback by all their efforts but is very slowly understanding what they want and that it might be fun. She has shown no aggression towards their sometimes-heavy campaign for her to play.
Caela loves to go on walks but has few leash manners. She can surge and weave with the best of them! More experience out on leash is what she needs to become accomplished. This is one training issue, and another is her driving desire to constantly inspect the counters and enjoy resting on any, and all furniture. A stern “off” cures her of both behaviors. Caela is crate trained and is currently being fed dinner in her crate, but because she is so trustworthy, she also enjoys the privilege of sleeping on the floor in the master bedroom of her foster home.
Caela knows come, sit, down, and will go into her crate on command, but stay is like a foreign language to her. She does want to please so additional obedience training, if done positively, should be successful. Caela has shown no interest in toys but would rather just sit by, or next, to you. Indeed, she can display a level of anxiousness if she does not see you. Closeness to her people is important.
When meeting new people, Caela has shown some tentativeness and sometimes barks, or is hesitant, to approach the new person. Once Caela considers the stranger as non-threatening, she will accept the person with tail wags and a desire for attention. More time and experiences will help determine if these behaviors are due to all the recent changes in her life or her personality.
This very pretty girl needs a home where she can be the focus and a family to help her catch up on all she has missed. Are you the one to make Caela’s world complete?
