Original: “Playing fetch is one of Butch’s favorite activities and he would play for hours if he could.”
Poor Butch was found in a small crate at a local New Jersey flea market, for sale through a local rescue group. He was rescued by a loving MAESSR volunteer who fostered Butch for 2 weeks before he came to live with his current foster mom.
A very sweet, loving, playful boy, Butch is very polite and has amazing manners. Housetrained, he signals his need to go out by walking between the door and his foster mom until she takes him outside. Once outside, he does his business and is ready to play! Butch does not enjoy being in a crate. He has free roam of the house when his foster mom leaves and has not destroyed, chewed, or had any accidents while alone. Butch loves his bed and sleeps there all night! He does not jump on the furniture but he will put his 2 front paws on your lap for some quality petting time.
Butch’s excellent house manners extend to the kitchen and dining room too. He does not counter-surf nor does he beg for food. Although he will sit and watch you eat, once he realizes he isn’t getting anything, he lies down and takes a nap. Good boy, Butch!
Butch knows “sit” and “stay,” but he does need some work on the “come” command. He can be an escape artist if not watched carefully when off leash. He loves to take walks and is great on the leash. He also loves to meet new people and will generally sit in front of them until they pet him. Butch really enjoys the car! He will sit in the front seat and then once he sees everything he needs to see, he migrates to the back seat and sprawls out. A true spaniel, he is fond of the water and has even been swimming in the bay with his foster mom! He won’t rule out the pool, either, and has even been on a boat ride!
Playing fetch is one of Butch’s favorite activities and he would play for hours if he could. To keep the game going, he drops the ball at his foster mom’s feet for her to throw it again. Not object or food aggressive, Butch will let his foster mom take toys or food or treats right out of his mouth. He is very gentle when he is eating and while taking food from someone’s hand.
Butch is great with the groomer. He has let his foster mom handle his ears, feet, and give him baths. He loves to be brushed and will usually clunk over onto his back so his tummy can be brushed and scratched. Butch was a superstar at the vet!
In Butch’s ideal forever home, there would be older children since it takes him a little bit to warm up and feel comfortable around people. Also, he can be a little sensitive when someone new gets too close to his face. Butch needs plenty of exercise and a large yard to run in would be great since he is very energetic and does need daily walks and play time.
Would Butch fit in as a new member of your active family?
