Buster and four other Springers were relinquished by a backyard breeder to MAESSR. He was filthy and had fleas; we took him home and gave him a much needed bath and ear cleaning. Buster is the perfect gentleman, great with kids, dogs and curious about cats. He is not aggressive in anyway, even shared his food bowl with resident male ESS. Buster did mark in the house when left loose and alone.
Buster currently is not crate-trained. He barked and scratched for the six hours he was left alone. For now he is coming to the office with his foster mom where he sleeps under her desk. Again, being the perfect gentleman! His foster mom will work on crate-training him.
Buster does not know any commands, but we are working on that. He walks fine on the leash and doesn’t know about squirrel and rabbit chasing. However, the two resident ESS’s are trying to change that, training him in the art of sled-dogging and hunting. He sometimes gets excited and jumps up, does attempt to climb on the furniture but will get down with assistance. Except for the marking, he appears to be housebroken.
Buster is four years old and 52 pounds; he has very big bones and paws the size of major league baseball mitts. He has beautiful markings and very curly ears.
His health appears to be good except he is being treated for an advanced ear infection. Buster was an angel at the vet’s office, allowed her to flush his ears and take blood samples, etc. Everyone in the office was impressed with his sweet and calm demeanor.
Update: 7/20/03
Buster was adopted by a loving family.
