Original: “He’s just a sweet Velcro boy who wants to be loved and near his people.”
When a kennel in Maryland closed, MAESSR was able to step in to help find forever homes for the dogs, which included Buddy.
Buddy joined his foster family with ease. He gets along well with the resident female Lab and his other foster friend. There also are several Boston Terriers that stay in the home for a few days to visit when their owner travels. Buddy is easy-going and gets along with all of the dogs. He’s just a sweet Velcro boy who wants to be loved and near his people. He loves adults and children and would do well in a family with children old enough to respect the needs of an older dog.
While Buddy is in overall good health, his right front leg is noticeably shorter. He will lift the leg up in a dog point position or just show his humans his paw when he sits for them. At an early age Buddy had an infection in that shoulder, which prevented the leg from growing at a normal rate. Buddy walks and runs fine with this leg, however, and it has no negative effects on his getting around.
An excellent houseguest, Buddy has no bad habits, with the exception of sleeping on the couch (if one considers sleeping on a comfy couch a bad habit.) He does not counter-surf, chew inappropriately, or get into the trash. This housetrained boy sleeps next to his foster mom’s bed at night, although he’d love to sleep on the big bed. That place, however, has been taken!
Buddy eats in his own area in the kitchen, as do the rest of the dogs, and does not guard his food. He knows the command “sit,” comes when called, and will reduce pulling on the leash when told to heel. There is no fenced yard at his foster home, but Buddy is trusted to stay around the house off lead. He gets several walks a day and the neighbor children love to babysit and walk Buddy. He loves people and children and gets excited when he sees them on his walk. Buddy loves the car, too, and is happy to be a driving companion. When not walking or riding, Buddy is happy to relax in the house on the couch or doggie bed. This funny guy loves to lie on his stomach spread-eagle fashion.
Toys and balls are part of Buddy’s play repertoire. He chews the stuffing out of his animals and (sometimes) he will return a ball while playing fetch.
Buddy doesn’t mind having his feet or ears touched. His foster mom trimmed the long hair on his ears without a problem. He didn’t care to have his mouth looked over and his foster mom noticed that some of his teeth were worn down.
A sweet, young-acting boy, Buddy just wants to play and be with his people. He would do well in any home, with our without children. He can be trusted alone in the house if his family was away at work. Did we mention that he has the sweetest face? If you’re looking for a best buddy, look no further than this sweetheart who’s so aptly named.
