Update 03/23/12:
A quick update on Buddy……at his recent vet visit, he surprised all when testing positive for Lyme disease and anaplasmosis, both tick-borne illnesses. Being completely asymptomatic, his diagnosis was made based on the same blood test that checked him for heartworm disease. A month of antibiotics will address both issues and should keep this boy in tip-top shape as he awaits an adopting family………:).
Original:
Buddy came into MAESSR’s care after starting to have some “control” issues with his previous owner in Virginia. Buddy did very well with the owner’s wife but was rather stubborn about performing some commands for the husband. It was felt that Buddy might be happier in a different home.
With nice confidence Buddy met his foster family, walked into their back yard and made himself at home from that moment on. That night he jumped up in his foster parent’s bed and laid down like he had always lived there. Buddy has great house manners and does not counter surf. He does not like to be crated, but that has not been an issue with his gentlemanly manners. Buddy’s behavior with all of the other dogs in his foster home has been good. Occasionally he is a bit of a bully, but that is quickly resolved. Although he doesn’t always like to get in, he rides well in the car once onboard.
Buddy pulls on the leash when walking but does settle down to an enjoyable pace once he gets underway. He LOVES to play Frisbee and will allow you to throw it for him for hours. The main problem is that he does not always bring it back, thus ending the fun early or giving his playmate lots of exercise too………:)).
To maintain a dashingly trim look, Buddy visits a groomer. He is muzzled when with the groomer because he does not like to have his feet touched. His previous family had worked a lot with him on this issue and saw much improvement, but he is still muzzled……just to be safe. He does not have a good recall, though he will come fairly reliably for treats. This is something his adopting family will need to work on; having a fenced area at home for daily practice would be a great help toward moving this skill ahead.
This gorgeous Springer is a real sweetheart and is definitely going to be someone’s BEST Buddy!! Check back as news continues to come…………
