Poor Buddy is another victim of the current economic crisis. When his family lost their home and could not take Buddy along to the apartment, Buddy went to a very full shelter in Pennsylvania. MAESSR’s angels intervened and now Buddy is starting a new chapter of his life.
Buddy’s foster mom thinks he was a well-loved member of his first family. His house manners are impeccable. There is no counter-surfing or trash picking for Buddy! He knows basic commands of “sit,” “down,” “come,” “paw,” “spin,” “catch,” and “fetch” and his is recall is excellent. A quiet boy in the house, Buddy can amuse himself with balls or squeaky toys for hours. Although he can be crated, he doesn’t need it since he is totally housebroken and trustworthy. Buddy is great in the car and great for grooming, too. He is not fazed by having people handle his paws or ears either.
Reportedly having lived with children as young as 6 months, his foster family can only attest to how much he loves their 5 year old grandson as well as the older children he has met. On the four legged front, Buddy and the resident male Springer get along just fine although Buddy doesn’t seem to know how to play with another dog. Buddy does not guard toys or food except with a dog that tries to steal or get too close. Cat chasing is a big temptation for Buddy in his foster home, so he would prefer a permanent home where this is not a temptation.
Buddy was given a clean bill of health at his veterinary check up. Hooray for Buddy! He did arrive with some itchy skin which may have been a result of a flea infestation while living in a barn at the overcrowded shelter. It was decided the quickest path to solve the itching was a bath, Frontline, antihistamines, and a change in diet. All seems to be going well now.
Playing ball outside and going for walks are two of Buddy’s favorite activities. His greatest dilemma in life is trying to decide if it is really worthwhile to drop his ball long enough to eat and drink. On walks, his foster mom is using a walking harness while Buddy hones his leash skills. While on leash, chasing wild critters is being discouraged!
When bed time nears, Buddy goes up to bed with whichever foster parent goes first. He sleeps peacefully through the night on a blanket on the floor beside his foster mom’s bed. He is content to wait to start the day until the first set of human feet hit the floor. Buddy seems to have no interest in being on the human’s bed or furniture.
This great boy is ready to be a forever buddy in his forever home!
