Update 07/30/08:
Buddy has just been neutered after having finished his treatment for Lyme disease and he is just fine. He did have a few days of pain in his right front paw but a week of canine pain medication has caused that to disappear.
Buddy is a real sweetheart who just loves being showered with attention. He loves to explore, however, and found a way under the fence in his foster parents’ yard – the only one of over fifty foster dogs to do so. He was off down the street checking out the neighborhood, but he returned quickly once we called to him. He was so glad to get back inside with his people! His foster mom thinks he got out, but couldn’t get back in and was looking for someone to help him! Buddy will make a wonderful companion for the lucky family who adopts him!
Original:
Buddy was relinquished by his owner due to a divorce and a move to a place where dogs were not allowed. This Pennsylvania fieldie spent most of his life as an outside dog who was only allowed into the furnace room of the house when the weather was bad. He came to his foster home very matted but in good physical condition otherwise.
Buddy has been groomed short to get rid of his mats and has been brought up to date on all his shots since his previous owner could not remember when Buddy had last been to a vet. He tested positive for Lyme disease so he is being treated for that currently. Generally, Buddy is in wonderful shape for his age. He does not have any joint issues and goes up and down the stairs with the energy of a much younger dog. His teeth are clean but a few are broken probably from chewing rocks outside. He is scheduled to be neutered when his Lyme treatment is completed.
Buddy loves being allowed in the house! He has excellent house manners and has not marked or had any accidents at all. He does counter-surf, but responds to “no” quickly. He is his foster mom’s shadow whenever she is in the kitchen. He wants to be with his people all the time now that he has experienced the closeness of being with them inside. Buddy has free run of the house and is not crate-trained. He is good with the resident male Springers and seems to be glad to have the company of other dogs. Buddy is not food aggressive but will steal food from the other dogs if they wander away from their bowls. He does not bark very much and will sit for treats – unless they take too long to get to him! Then, he will jump for his treat! He eats dry food, but prefers people food when given the option. Cheese and liverwurst and peanut butter are among his favorites!
Buddy seems to have a high hunt instinct and a very sensitive nose. He always seems to know when some critter has been in the yard and loves to run the perimeter of the fence to be sure his foster family is critter-free. Buddy rides well in the car but does need to be restrained or else he will get to the front with the driver to help with the navigation! He is reported to love the water and swimming. Buddy sleeps with his foster mom and dad in their room along with his two foster brothers. He settles down quickly and sleeps all night without incident.
Buddy is one of the happiest and most loveable springers his foster parents have had. He is a definite people pleaser and only wants to be with his family and enjoy their company. He will be a wonderful companion for the lucky family who adopts him. Will you be that family?
