Update 06/13/12:
Hello folks,
Bucky has returned from another vet visit for bloodwork. His foster parents are happy to report that he is doing VERY, VERY well. The good news………….Bucky is heartworm negative, always, always something to celebrate! Some new news………..while testing for heartworm, the vet ran a Lyme titer. Bucky triggered positive for Lyme disease and, though not-symptomatic, he was placed on a course of antibiotics as a good measure.
He continues on the daily supplement for arthritis and Bucky’s joint movement has improved. He chases squirrels and runs after balls with the resident ESS just fine! Bucky still has “ZIP” in his Zippidy-do-da and is still ready for his “fur-ever” family. Here’s hoping he gets a home with squirrels, balls, and space to “zip” around in every day!! Go Bucky………… :)))!
Update 06/12/12:
Bucky’s zip is back! With help on his health issues, Bucky will now engage in a game of ball or chase squirrels………yeah!!! The abscess in his mouth has cleared up. That alone must feel terrific. He has finished a course of anti-inflammatories and moves very, very well now. A daily supplement to assist with arthritis will help continue his great outcome!
His house manners continue to be good. Bucky does LOVE his food ….but is NOT aggressive with it. He now will sit for a treat. His only vice in life is that he will try to lounge on a couch or comfy chair if given the chance!
Bucky is a smart guy and figures out how to get around obstacles, but then again, a man of his age has had much experience! He is an all-around great, easy going mature Springer and almost ready to find his “fur-ever” home!
Original:
Bucky came into MAESSR’s care from a shelter in Pennsylvania. He had lived outside on a farm with his dog buddy, but both were surrendered to the shelter due to the owners not being able to care for them any longer.
Upon arrival at the shelter, Bucky’s coat and skin were in pretty bad shape. The shelter staff had him shaved and bathed and his nails were cut. This lovely senior tolerated his spa experience very well. Since coming into MAESSR’s care, his foster parents have continued his oatmeal baths and his skin is looking very good.
Bucky has nestled right into family life in his foster home. He happily shares his new foster parents with a three year old fieldie and two resident cats. An excellent house guest, Bucky has lovely house manners. He does not counter-surf or trash pick and he is totally housetrained. He enjoys his food, but is not possessive about it. His foster parents don’t think he is crate trained, but there has been no need for this since he is so trustworthy that he is given free run of the kitchen and TV room while his foster parents are at work. While they are gone, he just comfortably snuggles on his dog bed. Bucky is not much of a barker, but when he woofs, it is a low sultry bark which fits a fellow of his age. Bucky enjoys being around people and is always looking for a pat on the head or a treat.
Some old age problems are creeping up on Bucky but they do not limit him in any way. On occasion, traveling up and down a flight of 12 steps is a challenge due to arthritis. His eyesight is clouded by cataracts and he is currently taking antibiotics for a mouth abscess. The vet detected some disc bulging in his mid-spine area and his head tilts slightly to the left which is probably due to long ago issues with infection or trauma. These issues do not stop him, though; he remains a happy, fellow who is always looking for fun and adventure!
This handsome gentleman likes to keep active. Even though he is a senior and does have arthritis (as most seniors do), he is young at heart and enjoys a running game of catch. He LOVES his stuffed toys and will walk around with stuffed animals in his mouth. Bucky knows his name and will come when called or whistled to. His leash manners are good and he has shown he can be trusted off leash. He rides well in the car, too. He is a happy, sweet guy who has been through some rough times, but still loves life and people.
Bucky really is a great guy who still has much love to share! Seniors rock!
