Update 07/19/09: Mr. Buck is doing great these days. He’s trotting around the yard and playing with the other dogs, although he prefers to play with his foster mom’s little five-pound dog. He greets everyone in the morning and at the door with a wagging tail, jumping around with happiness like a puppy.
Buck loves to go for walks and is very good on the leash. He also likes riding in the car but only if he can ride in the front seat. This boy is ready for a “furever†home, with people of his own, people who really like Springer kisses as this is one of his favorite things to do. Buck may be a senior, but he has lots of love to give and still enjoys going places and doing what ever his people are doing. This handsome gentleman is a true gem and will be a wonderful addition to any family that makes him their own!
Original: U.S. military personnel and their families make tremendous sacrifices for this country, some of which involve saying goodbye to beloved pets to honor the call of duty. This is the case with Buck, a 12-year-old Springer who lived with the same military family for most of his life. Sadly, they were being transferred overseas and Buck’s health would not, in his vet’s opinion, have withstood the 17-hour flight and 120 days in quarantine. So, with deep regret and sadness, his family said goodbye to their sweet Springer boy, confident that MAESSR would find Buck a new, loving family to live out his golden years.
Buck is a wonderfully sweet boy with no bad habits. He is fine when left alone and has no housetraining issues. There is no counter surfing or trash diving for this handsome, tall Springer with a full tail and lovely ticking. He does have some arthritis in his hind legs, so he is not a runner, but this does not stop him from roaming around the yard or managing the three steps in and out of the house. He has not tried to go upstairs, but the stairs in his foster home are very steep and narrow. An experienced traveler, Buck rides well in the car although he needs some help to get in as his back legs are not the strongest.
In his foster home, Buck is living peacefully with four resident dogs, one other MAESSR foster Springer, and four resident cats. He grew up with his family’s son who is now fifteen, so he is also good with children; however, at his age Buck would probably prefer a less active family. Although he is understandably upset that his family is gone, Buck is obedient and listens well. He was reported to be hard of hearing, but this has not been noticed in his foster home. He comes when called, both inside and out, and will lie down when told. When it comes to food, he takes biscuits very gently from the hand and he does not mind having his food dish handled.
Senior Springers are truly wonderful additions to a family; they are full of love and appreciation. Open your heart to Buck and
