Original: “Bubba wants an active family…perhaps someone that would like to do agility with him.”
Bubba came to MAESSR because his Pennsylvania family realized that the children in the home were making him nervous and jumpy. They decided he should be in a quieter home with a less hectic activity. So, Bubba became a MAESSR boy.
A social guy, Bubba is good meeting people at the door. In his enthusiasm, he jumps on them, though. Previously, Bubba lived with a lab and 2 dog-savvy cats, all with whom he got along fine. He would like to get to know the birds in the neighborhood, but they are not cooperative; so, he chases them. When it comes to kids, Bubba just would prefer not being around frenetic young children since they make him nervous. He would be fine being with teens and older people.
This athletic two year old bounds over the baby gate in his foster home with ease—a barrier that was meant to contain him. He has also cleared a five foot fence in his back yard. Bubba barks to alert and does not dig nor chew inappropriately.
Both housetrained and crate trained, Bubba is crated when he is left alone, but otherwise he has full run of the house. This trustworthy boy has no submissive urination. He does beg for food with his eyes and will counter-surf if given the chance. He is not food aggressive, though.
Although he has had no formal obedience lessons, Bubba is reportedly very trainable. He knows “sit,” “come,” “down,” “paw,” and “heel.” Bubba pulls on lead but is trusted off lead. When it is time for a ride, he is nervous about getting in a car but once he’s in, he rides okay. Bubba is afraid of thunderstorms but only looks to his people for comfort.
Bubba did very well at the vet and the groomer. When Bubba was at the vet to get neutered, they discovered that his prostrate appeared to be enlarged. So, he is currently being treated for a prostrate infection. He has been also placed on a supplement to help with his anxiety. It appears to be helping. His adopting family will be required to keep him on this for at least six months after adoption.
Bubba wants an active family…perhaps someone that would like to do agility with him. Since he can jump a baby gate with no effort, he would be a natural! Bubba is a lover boy that will be a perfect addition to the right home.
