Update 02/28/2015:“Oh so handsome…sensible middle-aged gent…very healthy…so well-mannered…almost ready to become a new family’s “pride and joy.”
Under the guidance of his vet and foster family, Bubba has completed testing and treatment for some minor health issues. His Lyme test came back “negative.” When his thyroid levels were re-evaluated (as they are periodically when a dog’s on thyroid supplements), his vet felt that Bubba no longer needed supplementation. Medication cured a urinary tract infection in short order, and, a grain-free diet has led to clear skin. Bubba is back to enjoying excellent health!
Bubba is a great boy. He will be perfect for someone who lives a quieter life and is not overly energetic but does enjoy leisurely walks with a dog. Bubba’s leash manners are impeccable; he does not pull and loves to walk next to you. His desire for closeness carries over to indoor life; Bubba takes comfort in cozying up right next to his people on the couch. He apparently has never been taught to “jump” so his foster family is in the habit of giving him a boost into their hatchback vehicle. If such assistance can carry over into life with his adopting family, great. Alternately, if his next ride happens to be a lower-profile vehicle, that would be great too.
While good with little people, Bubba would probably live most happily with older children. As in his past, visits from younger ones would be fine. Though always a plus, a fenced yard isn’t necessarily a requirement for Bubba. At his foster home, Bubba is going out to do his busyness and comes right back in when done…all within sight of his family at the door, of course.
Oh so handsome…sensible middle-aged gent…very healthy…so well-mannered…almost ready to become a new family’s “pride and joy.” When “available,” it may only take Bubba a heartbeat to land his perfect match. If that could be you, please ask about meeting him now!
Original: “In his ideal forever home, Bubba would benefit from having a dog friend as he does not like to be left alone.”This big, handsome, bench Springer is “Bubba our Guardian Angel” who was his owner’s pride and joy for the past eight years. Unfortunately, when his New Jersey owner had to move in with family members due to health issues, Bubba couldn’t move with her due to the other family’s new baby and their already having a dog. The owner became his guardian angel by contacting MAESSR to find her sweet Springer a wonderful new home.
A well-mannered boy, Bubba is excellent in the house. He does like nor need to be crated. Housetrained and reliable, he walks around for attention to tell his person he needs to go outside. A quiet dog in the house, Bubba does not bark, chew, or counter-surf. At night he sleeps on a doggie bed next to his foster parents’ bed but will jump on their bed for attention before going to sleep.
Bubba has had no formal training but knows “sit,” “come,” “down,” “paw,” and “heel.” Bubba likes to ride in the car and walks nicely on the leash. Trustworthy off leash too, he likes long walks and is used to going out walking four times a day. When he meets people, he does not jump on them. Running around the yard and chasing chipmunks are some of his favorite outside activities besides going on walks. He does not seem to be interested in digging. Good boy!
This mellow boy is good with people, other dogs, and cats. His previous owner reported that he was good with her grandchildren, ages one and three. Also, Bubba is used to the company of other dogs and he had lived with another female Springer until her recent death. In his ideal forever home, Bubba would benefit from having a dog friend as he does not like to be left alone. After the death of his canine companion, Bubba would reportedly cry when his owner left him—something he would not do previously. When Bubba would visit family members in their home, he would sniff their cat but would not chase her.
By taking inexpensive medication for low thyroid, Bubba’s thyroid levels are now good. When he came into foster care, he had a yeast infection on his skin and now the sores are healing well with treatment. His foster family is working to get Bubba back to excellent health under the guidance of their vet! Oh, Bubba was an A+ patient at his vet appointment, too!
Easy to groom, Bubba loves to get a bath and will jump in the bath tub when his foster mom taps on the tub. At this point his coat needed to be trimmed short to get the yeast scabs off his body. Again, those yeast sores are clearing up nicely with his change of diet and bathing.
Bubba will be a great family dog with children or a single person. He would enjoy having another dog for company! It won’t be long now until Bubba gets a clean bill of health from the vet, so start inquiring about him now!
