Update 06/25/2019: “His newest personality trait is ‘talking’ to his foster parents, especially around feeding time.”

Bruno continues to do so well in his foster home. He’s great with the resident dogs; being agreeable with the larger dog next door is a work in progress and he requires an introduction to bring a new dog into his home if it’s larger than he is. He is pretty happy to meet most anyone and most dogs outside. And Bruno continues to be a great car dog; so, road trips with him could be a great experience for his new family.

Such a good boy, Bruno sleeps in a dog bed now and will cuddle with his people on request. He is really loveable with the Springer tendencies he demonstrates. His newest personality trait is “talking” to his foster parents, especially around feeding time. It’s been discovered that Bruno has developed a grass allergy and he has been taking medication to keep it under control.

Bruno has been doing great on walks and will require someone who has experience with “strong walkers” so that Bruno falls in line. With proper technique and leash/collar, walking Bruno is a pleasant experience.

Please ask about this sweet boy!  He’s soon ready to join his new family.

Update 05/04/2019: “Back with his original foster family, Bruno is a happy boy in his familiar surroundings.”

Bruno was adopted and spent several months with his new family. Unfortunately, through no fault of his own, the family situation changed which required Bruno to return to MAESSR.

Back with his original foster family, Bruno is a happy boy in his familiar surroundings. In fact, he’s very playful for a pup his age. He’s shown a little jealousy towards the resident dog who’s bigger than Bruno, but eventually he’s fine. He never exhibits any untoward behavior outside of his home.

Bruno longs for his forever family. Do you have it in your heart to add him to yours?

Update 12/08/2018:  “Bruno now loves his walks and he is absolutely one of the best couch-snugglers ever!”

Bruno is becoming calmer in his foster family’s household around children. His foster mom thinks this is because his confidence with them has grown and the training they are providing has him looking to them now for guidance in most situations. Bruno now loves his walks and he is absolutely one of the best couch-snugglers ever!
 
While his family was away on vacation, Bruno was kenneled. Apparently, he did not do well in a kennel situation during playgroups. He would do best in a home that would allow a pet sitter to come to the adopter’s home when they are on vacation to provide exercise, rather than having him in a doggie daycare or kennel.
 
It seems that Bruno doesn’t care for more than three dogs in a household at one time, but he does adjust with time. He gets excited when the dog-play occurs and refuses to participate other than barking, silly boy!
 
If you’re looking for a super-snuggler to sit with you on the couch this winter, Bruno is more than willing to be your faithful companion.

Update 11/07/2018: “He is walking more frequently and seems to become excited when the leash comes out!”

Only good news comes from Bruno’s foster home.  He only counter-surfs at meal time now and is 100% housetrained.  Since he was altered, he has stopped marking in the home and no longer tries to dominate the resident dogs.  The newest Springer wannabe has been to some public dog events with another rescue and has had no incidents; this cutie just wants to play. 

Because of his excitement, he would need supervision around toddlers, but seems good with older children.  He is walking more frequently and seems to become excited when the leash comes out!

Bruno is definitely ready for his forever home and would truly love to be there before the holidays come and the snow flies.  Won’t you welcome him into your family?

Update 10/08/2018: “Although Bruno is a Springer mix, he possesses the temperament and all the mannerisms of this wonderful breed.” 

Bruno continues to be a good boy in his foster home. It has become apparent that he will chase cats. Although unconfirmed, it’s possible that Bruno would do okay with a dog-savvy kitty.

Although Bruno is a Springer mix, he possesses the temperament and all the mannerisms of this wonderful breed. Springer is a state of mind…and Bruno certainly possesses it!

Original:  “The new guy in the home has not yet been to the groomer, but has handled some trimming and an ear exam graciously. (He has clean ears!!!  Is he really a Spaniel?)” 

Bruno was picked up in Pennsylvania as a stray and not claimed when taken to a shelter.  He was in danger of being put to sleep when MAESSR was contacted and a wonderful volunteer stepped in to move him to a safe foster home.

This guy may have been an only dog as he did have some marking issues with other dogs in his foster home. Positive reinforcement, training and redirection are helping him almost completely eliminate these behaviors.  He is eager to learn and wants to please. While Bruno seemed to prefer women over men, he is warming up to the men in the household and to visitors.  He is playful with the resident dogs, aged 3 and 4, and has been exposed to older children with no problems.  While he seems to want to dominate, he takes his cue from the residents to back off although he does keep trying.  His recent neutering should help that behavior.

Bruno is 98% housetrained—almost there.  He signals by going to the door and sometimes gently pawing it.  Because he is living in a multiple dog household, he goes out more on a schedule

He is crate trained for sleeping and when his folks are away, and is quiet in his crate. They are training him to “be calm” before releasing him from his crate into the home.  He has been the perfect blend of playful and calm because he loves to be active when prompted and outdoors, but settles in for a cuddle or nap inside with the family.  He is a social eater, so he wants to be with people to eat; he is fed with the resident dogs in the kitchen, but with everyone in his own space for safety.

House manners are a work in progress as this guy does try to jump on counters and does counter-surf; but he is easily redirected.  In his foster home, he is allowed on furniture and seems to be familiar with that comfy concept.  He does prefer the floor and cool tile most of the time.  He has only chewed dog-items and especially enjoys a buffalo horn with peanut butter, but seems somewhat picky—he is not toy driven.

Bruno knows “sit” and is learning more commands in his safe, new home.  He much prefers a run in the yard to a walk around the block, but does respond happily to others when meeting them on a walk.  He settles in comfortably for car rides.  The new guy in the home has not yet been to the groomer, but has handled some trimming and an ear exam graciously.  (He has clean ears!!!  Is he really a Spaniel?) Similarly, he was a champ at the vet’s where his high food motivation helped him ignore those pesky shots.

Bruno might be happiest in a home with another dog or two, but may be ok with a human to bond with or a family.  He is an easy going, happy pup who is eager to please and smart.  This handsome fellow is going to be a special part of a lucky family.
