This wonderful little boy was found as a stray in West Virginia and taken to a shelter there. The staff immediately contacted MAESSR about Bronson since their shelter was so full. MAESSR volunteers quickly jumped into action and brought Bronson to his foster home in record time.
When he arrived in foster care, Bronson was very frightened and matted and he smelled bad. His foster mom decided to take it slowly with him and work on the mats over the next few days. When she started working on the mats in his ears, the stench was so bad she kept gagging. She finally gave up and put him in the bathtub for a good bath, hoping the she could get rid of some more mats while he soaked. Shockingly, she found a large untreated tear in his ear that was extremely infected. The edges of both of his ears had been chewed up and had large infected scabs on them. No wonder the poor boy smelled!
Bronson was immediately put on an antibiotic and taken to the vet the next day. The vet and his staff were able to clean and debride the wound and then stitch it together. It looks very healthy now and appears to be healing wonderfully. Bronson accepted all of the procedures done to his infected and painful ear wounds without complaint. What a trooper! He really seemed to appreciate someone taking care of him. (This is how life should be, Bronson!) While at the vet, Bronson was diagnosed as Lyme positive, but is not symptomatic. He will be treated for this just as soon as he completes the course of antibiotics for his ears.
Now that his health issues are being treated and he is getting good food on a regular basis, Bronson is starting to fill out and look like a Springer pup should! Bronson is learning all about living in a house also. Housetraining is going very well and he has not had any accidents in his foster home. Crate-training is progressing too; Bronson will whine for the first couple of minutes when put in his crate, but quickly settles when he figures out it will not do him any good. He has been allowed to sleep with his foster parents a couple of times and did very well with that. With each outing, Bronson is improving with his car riding skills. At first he wanted to drive, but he is quickly learning to stay in his seat. Currently, Bronson does not walk very well on a leash, but he really wants to please so his foster parents are sure he will soon be walking like a champ.
MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs under one year old to enroll their puppy in an obedience class within 60 days of adoption. Since he is a smart puppy that is eager to please, Bronson will be at the head of the class!
Bronson has blossomed into a wonderfully sweet Springer puppy that will make some family very happy. Gentle, loving, fun, and very sweet–who could ask for more!
