Brody was very reluctantly turned over to MAESSR due to circumstances beyond the owner’s control. This Maryland boy, however, arrived well-groomed, well-trained, and has been a perfect house guest from day one.
Brody and the resident 9 year old Springer happily co-exist, neither too interested in playing together. However say the word “ball” and Brody jumps to attention. He can play with the Chuck-It Ball all afternoon. When the humans are at work, the dogs have full freedom in the house. Brody is reportedly crate trained, but that hasn’t been necessary. Also, he reportedly may be timid of much larger dogs or puppies, but this hasn’t been tested in the foster home.
Brody LOVES people, but he prefers to get to know them at his own pace. Once in, he is a friend for life! After being alone in the house during the work day, Brody is very excited when a family member returns. He wiggles so hard and sometimes even greets with a toy in his mouth, completely overjoyed! He is a good watchdog too; he will bark once or twice when there is a knock on the door or when the doorbell rings.
Completely housetrained, Brody whimpers at the back door when he needs to go out to do his business. He hasn’t had ANY accidents in the home. Good boy! At night, in typical Springer fashion, he likes to be near his humans. While he would prefer to be on the bed, he obediently listens to the “off” command and sleeps in his bed by the edge of his humans’ bed. This is exemplary of his perfect house manners! This nice boy does not counter-surf, does not trash dive, and does not chew inappropriately; however, he does turn on the puppy eyes while his human family is eating dinner.
This smart boy knows “come,” “stay,” “wait,” “sit,” “down,” and “off” and seems like he would be amenable to learning even more commands! In fact for a treat, on the “down” command, he dives down to the floor so fast, so as to enjoy that treasured treat ASAP. He walks smoothly and gently on a leash. He hasn’t shown any interest in other dogs on the walks, nor other creatures. He’ll greet a neighbor and then want to get on his way. He does get nervous in the car and would probably like to drive, if he could. His family is not sure if he would be happy with long rides.
On grooming, Brody stands perfectly still while his foster mom brushes him and bathes him. He seems to love the water and the attention! He’s good for having his ears cleaned and checked and you can handle his feet too. He just balks when the nail clippers come out. He will even sit to have his teeth brushed.
Although Brody does not appear to be upset by vacuums, thunder or fireworks, he does react to extreme windy conditions. If there is a wind storm at night, he will curl up close to one of his people.
Brody LOVES anything that can be done outdoors!!! He loves to go on hikes at parks or nature trails where he can run. He is used to getting long walks each day; four miles is nothing to this boy. Brody also LOVES water in any shape or form. Baths are great and he will often jump into the tub hoping for a bath. He also gets into the tub occasionally to take advantage of the cool porcelain. He would also probably enjoy some good swims, but careful attention would have to be paid to his ears so as to avoid infections. He does get some allergies and is taking an inexpensive medicine to keep the allergies at bay.
Brody is handsome, fluffy, well-mannered, and smart. He is a wonderful spirit who knows in his heart he will find his human match again. What is there not to love!
