Original: “A single pearl–luminous, sophisticated, mysterious. That describes this classy, sassy girl.”
Although Brittany had a rough start, being found as a stray in Pennsylvania, she is definitely on her way to a better life after a local shelter contacted MAESSR for help. This love is somewhat of a mystery. She does not like to speak of it, but she is only part Springer. However, she’s all heart.
A single pearl—luminous, sophisticated, mysterious. That describes this classy, sassy girl! Her coat is glossy and sleek. Her eyes are deep set and a chocolate brown that has one smitten at first sight. She is very affectionate with everyone. When she went shopping in the hardware store she was bombarded with strangers wanting to pet her. Brittany, always the lady, was in her element! At the checkout, she sat for her cookie and had the cashier in love with her! At the pet store, she pranced down the isles smelling everything. What a wonderful shopper!
The new girl in town has been to the vet, where she did fine with the probing and prodding. Brittany has a very long, lanky body (and an always -wagging tail) and at fifty-one pounds is a bit on the skinny side; she’ll gain a bit as she settles into her surroundings. She has exhibited some incontinence in her foster home, but this is most likely due to her diagnosed urinary tract infection.
Brittany eats dry food with some warm water and a little canned food with it. Typical Springer, this gal does like to counter-surf and would make short work of anything placed on a coffee table or end table; her foster family has learned to put everything away from her. Good job training them, Brittany!! She is crated when her family is away and is also being crated at night in the foster parents’ bedroom. While she finds this less than desirable accommodations and would prefer the bed, she is happy to oblige her foster dad and move into her crate.
Brittany has been to the dog park where her nose was in heaven sniffing all the other dog scents. She does ride well in the car, but has to be assisted into the cargo area of her foster mama’s SUV. This seems to be something related to the vehicle, as she is able to jump up on everyone and the bed.
This pup takes great delight in prancing and pouncing at the resident crotchety Yorkie. The Yorkie is not amused by these shenanigans, but Brittany is too much a lady to be upset. She just lets him grumble and goes on to investigate everything else. She is being walked on a leash with a harness to prevent her from pulling. This seems to work very well. This girl likes her walks and would do best with forever home that is active.
Brittany is learning “sit,” “down,” “off,” and “leave it.” Her foster family is working on getting her to not jump on everyone she meets; she just has a zest for life and could use an obedience class. MAESSR only places puppies in homes that are committed to training and bonding with the pup in obedience classes. Puppies require a lot of care, attention, and patience, and they do chew on things! The decision to get a puppy and raise it to be a healthy, happy, and well-adjusted dog is a serious commitment. To reinforce this commitment, MAESSR requires all adopters of dogs one year old and younger to enroll their puppy in obedience classes within 60 days of adoption
Brittany is also a leaner and is quite happy if when her folks sit down and allow her on their laps. But, she also likes to steal shoes from the closet, and has taught her foster family to keep their shoes in the closet with the door closed. Atta girl! Please understand, she does not chew the shoes, but just carries them around and sometimes tosses them in the air. A stuffed dragon and squeaky toys are other great fun for this youngster.
This beautiful lady has been bathed at the local pet store. She did not seem to think this was necessary, but only made minimal effort to cease the bathing process and actually likes to be brushed and tolerated being blown dry. Every lady enjoys a spa day!
So, Miss Pearl, as she prefers to be called, is soon to be looking for her very own furever home. She’s an absolute love, and wouldn’t you like to have a “pearl” of your very own?
