Update 06/09/2014: “Brittany is a very smart girl who just needs to feel safe and secure in her environment.”
Brittany’s infections have cleared and she’s happy, healthy, and feeling so much better!
This sweetie has really taken to her foster family, including their big, older dog. Brittany’s foster brother fell recently while he was going up the steps. Performing a Lassie-like mission, she ran to get her foster mom and kept running between the two of them until help arrived. It brought tears to her foster mom’s eyes to see how Brittany has bonded to all of them.
Brittany is a very smart girl who just needs to feel safe and secure in her environment. It looks like she’s ready for her forever home!
Update 05/07/2014: “…watch for updates that this beauty has been cleared for a forever home where she can play ball, steal slippers and socks, and be a snuggle bug with her very own family.”
The lovely Brittany continues to enjoy meeting most people and other dogs. She likes car rides and is very attached to her humans! Their house was so quiet while she was at the vet’s for her recent spaying.
This young gal is determined to be the keeper of all great things; she wants everything for herself and still can be aggressive with other dogs around high value treats and toys. But, she is doing well with training and knows “sit,” and “come.” She needs continuing work with leash walking. However, now it is spring and all things are easier for Springers and their humans!
Brittany will go back to the vet for a check on her recent surgery and continuing ear infection; watch for updates that this beauty has been cleared for a forever home where she can play ball, steal slippers and socks, and be a snuggle bug with her very own family.
Original: “When she wakes up in the morning, Brittany jumps into the bed to snuggle with her foster parents and kiss them.”
Brittany came to MAESSR via a New Jersey shelter where her owner had relinquished her after he had to move to a new place that did not take dogs. Having worked with MAESSR before, the shelter staff was happy for us to find a new home for Brittany.
It did not take Brittany long to acclimate herself to life in her foster home; she moved right in like she had always lived in the house. She loves being around her new family of adults and teens and she is very affectionate with both them and other dogs. Housetrained, Brittany quickly caught on to how to use the doggie door in her foster home.
A social girl, she does not like to be kept by herself in a crate or in a room. When she is left at home uncrated with the resident dogs for several hours, she does well. Always wanting to be part of the pack, at night Brittany sleeps next to the foster parents’ bed. When she wakes up in the morning, she jumps into the bed to snuggle with her foster parents and kiss them. Besides jumping up on the bed, Brittany jumps onto furniture, but gets off when told. However, as soon as her person’s back is turned, she makes herself comfortable again! Such a little stinker! Brittany loves car rides and especially loves being a passenger in the front seat.
Brittany loves playing ball and is great with returning it so the game of fetch can continue. She also seems to love water and was trying her hardest to climb into the family’s hot tub! She knows her name and does “come” when called. Brittany pulls a bit when on a leash, perhaps because she loves all the new smells and squirrels she sees. She eats dry food and knows her spot for meals. She is not a great eater and sometimes is just not interested in her kibble. A milkbone tastes so much better! Her shelter intake form said she had a history of food aggression with other dogs so she is fed in her own special spot. She has growled when a resident dog got too close to her food bowl early on, but there have been no further issues. Brittany is learning to “sit” before being given food and treats as she gets extremely pushy in wanting the treat as soon as she sees it.
Brittany lives well with teens, but has a tendency to jump up on people―a habit her family is trying to break―so she would do best with older children as she could knock down someone younger. Also, Brittany can be a bit pushy with people. She would definitely need a house with older kids as she loves stealing slippers and socks. Foster family members just wait until Brittany is distracted to get their stolen items back, but a younger child would not necessarily do that and could get into trouble. Her forever family will need to work with Brittany on “drop” and “trade.” Still a bit mouthy, Brittany likes to nip her foster mother’s hands and feet when she goes up the steps, but not down. It seems like it is a game for her. Her foster family is working on this behavior. Overall, Brittany is a lovebug and is very attached to her foster mom and the resident dogs.
Groomed professionally and given baths in the foster home, Brittany tolerates the spa treatment well. She seems to tolerate this well. Although she is being treated for bilateral ear infections, she is overall very healthy and happy. After she is spayed, she will be ready for her forever home.
How about making Brittany a part of your family? She has lots of love and kisses to share!
