Original: “Britt is a very sweet girl. She just needs a family that has the extra patience and time to help her overcome her anxiety.”
Britt’s Delaware owner passed away and his daughter inherited Britt. Due to circumstances within the home and Britt’s anxiety, the difficult decision was made for her to move to a MAESSR foster home.
Britt is a very sweet girl. She just needs a family that has the extra patience and time to help her overcome her anxiety. In her foster home she was started on a calming supplement that has really helped with her anxiety. Her new family will be required to continue the supplement for a minimum of six months after adoption. Britt’s foster mom feels that a lot of her anxiety stems from lack of socialization and exposure to new situations. Britt’s anxiety is displayed by her backing away from things that scare her and sometimes barking at it. Her confidence has increased while in her foster home and there is not as much anxiety displayed now.
Housetrained but not crate trained, Britt has free run of the house but is not allowed in the master bedroom. She barks at doorbell and when she sees cars or people go by house. Although she doesn’t counter-surf, Britt does jump up to take a look. She does beg at the table by putting her head on a lap. In response to this, her people ignore her or tell her to go lie down. She has no issues with thunderstorms and has no separation anxiety when her family leaves the house.
Around new people, Britt is reportedly skittish, barking and then backing off. With her family she is a Velcro pup following them around within the house. Britt has enjoyed running around with the other dogs in her foster home. She makes sure the fox, deer, and other critters stay out of her yard. Chasing critters is such fun! She has no exposure to cats.
Britt has had just informal training but she knows “sit,” “lie down,” “stay,” and “come” (if she doesn’t have distractions!). She is good on leash and doesn’t react to other dogs that bark at her and her person as they walk by. Britt is also good in the car. She does not like having her collar grabbed, though.
In her previous home, the owner groomed Britt and she was good for the process, allowing her person to touch her all over.
Britt is a beautiful girl. Some family is going to be thrilled to get to live with her.
